In order to refute Brexit supporters’ claims as to the cost of membership - what is the source of this information?

The oldest pensioners (and still the majority )are on the older basic state pension which hasn’t yet reached £200/week.However the birth rate dropped a lot in the 1960s-so by the time we move into the 2030s the numbers of pensioners will be declining. This must also affect the cost of SP provision

Most of the older pensioners - usually those over 70-are on the old style basic state pension currently £184.90 a week (less than £10,000 pa).How many could manage on that? Has to be topped up by benefits, so why not just up it to a decent level, and cut out the all the demeaning benefit claiming ?

Manchester Man(of the people). Is that really all he’s got to think about? Surely there’s other stuff beyond £2 bus fares and drinking on football terraces? What about climate change water pollution etc. What about lack of jobs for all ages. Cost of domestic heating rising by 24% on 01/01.?

💯% - we were offered the same touring conditions as the US artists get and the philistine doing the negotiation turned it down flat. Estimated £bns a year for the Exchequer generated by Brit artists touring outside the UK lost and the soft power. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I think this govt are scared that the Brexit Row will kick off again. Well yes in certain quarters it will - but the 60 odd percentage of us that want to rejoin should stand together against it. We know what is likely to happen disinformation etc - we have to call it out for what it is and fast .

I am really pleased for Canada - been looking to see what they produce that we can buy - chickpeas is a big one. I am really hacked off at the UK -still after a decade of Brexit disaster and sliding down economically and politically-nobody here has grasped the nettle. It has to happen -but when?

It’s all about profit-if they can find a way to monetarise what they do they will. Doesn’t matter which company it is & what they are offering, they will charge a fee for any extra offered if they can. Follow the money-never a truer word spoken. It is not pleasant to watch those snouts in the trough

Cameron allowed it b’cos he thought Remain wld win and shut down the anti EU side of his party. Ref.was advisory but Cameron sed whatever you decide we will do-that put the tin hat on it. Leave won on a slender majority -UK was sunk, hasn’t recovered &is sinking further. Nobody will face up to it.
001
Wendyjs @wendyjs.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
100% agree Sarah. It was only ever supposed to be advisory, but a certain Cameron D told the voters whatever you decide we will do, so after that there was no going back. Yeah.

Can I add “ cheap polyester flags” on roundabouts. Didn’t that just make you feel it was so worth it? . And all for what? Breaks my heart how far we have fallen in the last decade.

It makes me so angry. Apparently our touring bands etc were offered the same deal as the Americans get & it was turned down flat when ties with the EU were being cut as fast as possible. Earnings for the country & cultural influence gone. Ignorance by a certainTory negotiator on full display.

You are not the alone in wondering that- there is the huge row about the Astley Warehouse Development built in the middle of a housing estate in her constituency. (The unhappy residents post about it on Instagram). She is also the minister for deciding what will happen with funding for the BBC.

Don’t they realise people who have high cost of living - rent, mortgage, heating, food and other utility bills, and live in uncertain times - don’t have lots of kids

He may have made people feel a sense of pride and joy - but when it came right down to it, there was absolutely nothing. He was only interested in what was in it for him. He wasn’t interested in what he could do for anybody else. No time for the man

Cost of parking is an issue. I rarely find what I want in shops so I end up buying on line. Most of the city centres are full of the same chains. No small businesses can afford the rents & business rates. Retail rents too high to hold a lot of stock on site.High streets as they once were are over.

If you voted for Count Binface -I think you would get an excellent concerned and active MP looking out for Clacton’s interests. If you vote for anybody else 🤷‍♀️

I am so hoping it’s a win for the bin. But realistically I fear Fauxrage will be back - that’s why they are doing the big anti immigrants campaign this week- it’s all they’ve got

No criticism whatsoever - and kudos to you for doing what you do. I was just curious to understand why there haven’t been many nationwide protests. I get that people have to work and can’t be protesting all the time. I hope the mid terms stop him doing any further damage.

I asked a question about this on another thread. As a Brit I am confused as to why people aren’t out on the streets at the very least standing in silent vigil - think Hungary- to try and stop what’s going on. If you are relying on the midterms, well I hope you get what you want 🤷‍♀️

Wendyjs @wendyjs.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
I just don’t get why there aren’t more protests of one sort or another. Are you not allowed to gather and object to what your govt. is doing if you don’t like it? There is strength in numbers-silent vigils as in Hungary-if enough people turn up &just stand there often enough they do take notice.

The majority of the British people are unlikely to want a General Election. We just want some steady sensible government looking out for all of us not just the ministers and their pals.

Chlorinated chicken refers to poultry washed or sprayed with chlorine solutions during slaughter to kill harmful bacteria like Salmonella and Campylobacter. Used in the US as a "Pathogen Reduction Treatment", it’s banned in UK &EU due to concerns that it masks bad farming and hygiene standards

Speaking as a UK reader of these comments - a question occurs - you want to get rid of the man (don’t we all) - what are you going to do if the mid terms are rigged in his favour? How do you deal with that ?

The comment that £50 doesnt even buy a meal - not everybody can afford to eat out at all. But for some that £50 pays to keep the lights on in the dead of winter.

vAT is not charged in business rates - so this is a simple 20% reduction of business rates
