A record 23,706 Crown Court cases in England and Wales were over a year old at the end of June. In Northamptonshire, 258. Every one is someone’s life on hold. Ministers need a real plan to clear the backlog.

Rushden hasn’t had a passenger train since 1959. Wellingborough has the Midland Main Line. How you get to work here depends on which side of that line you live. Lib Dems want £1 bus fares, rail fares cut by 10%, and 12p a litre off at the pump.

A new board has never taken a penny off anyone’s water bill. Reported plans would hand water oversight to nine regional bodies run by mayors. North Northamptonshire hasn’t got a mayor. Owned by billpayers. Not run by mayors.
Green graphic headed WATER OWNERSHIP, with the headline “Owned by billpayers. Not run by mayors.” in large white type. Below it: reported plans would put water companies under nine new regional bodies overseen by mayors; North Northamptonshire hasn’t got a mayor and the devolution bid it has in with Government is for a Foundation Strategic Authority, which doesn’t come with one either; and the Liberal Democrats want water in mutual ownership, run by and for the people who use it.
