something weird going on here
a 3-manual Allen electronic organ occupying the placement for the Austin pipe organ 3-manual console which has been carted off for resizing (ensmallening of the wooden console shell) and refurbishment (new electronic control system); unfortunately they did not take my suggestion of raising the ceiling and going gothic very seriously. no fun.

those organ chambers behind the "flower boxes" have just a smidge more ceiling height than is apparent from the main room.

in a bid to add more accompanimental versatility and some softer stops, they are adding some electronic sounds. i do not support this approach, certainly not on *this* instrument

i was promised a fun playing card motif, @lucyworsley.bsky.social! 😂🤴👸🤷‍♂️
a hand holding a copy of Lucy Worsley's Queens & Kings: an Unusually Personal History against a brightly lit, verdant section of grass; a driveway with cars to the left. the shade from the porch roof makes the front cover wash out against the bright background.same book open to a plainly colored front flap, or whatever the proper publishers' term is for that section. the verdant green grass and cars are still visible.

here are my captures of the lunar eclipse. they're just point and shoot phone pictures of the partially eclipsed moon, taken in allegheny county:
medium zoom to the partially eclipsed moonsuper close, blurry view of the eclipsed moonmy favorite shot, this is zoomed closely; i have a suspicion it's actually some sort of moon-photograph fakery on samsung's part, as it's eerily clear and defined ...not zoomed in, visible in the frame are some light clouds, stars; lining the bottom are a wall topped by a rain gutter, and the top of a chimney. the shot seems to have been taken in black and white or sepia, and the moon appears to be fully illuminated due to the glare.

yes they are. they have a really nifty old Holtkamp organ. unfortunately i don't have a good picture of the instrument from the front
close up view of pipe organ stop tab rail. note: these stops are depressed (or pressed or selected); they are not pulled.

paper note affixed to top left at one point, presumably by an organist, reads: "PLEASE PUSH LEFT PEDAL DOWN WHEN FINISHED PLAYING, SO THAT AIR GOES THRU PIPES. "

manufacturer nameplate in center of image reads, in fancy font: "1855. 1924. Walter Holtkamp Sparling Organ Co. Cleveland. Ohio."

individual stop tab engravings are left undescribed, but you can ask me about my Zauber Floete any day, baby 🎹🎶😘
close of view of a manufacturer nameplate reading in fancy font: "The Votteler-Holtkamp-Sparling Organ Co."
and below that in plain, all-caps bold font: "CLEVELAND, OHIO."an image showing the latest of 1924 pipe organ electric signaling technology. one may see the back end of the "left pedal" referenced in the first image of this post.a view from the choir balcony of a big c catholic church showing pews, stations, windows, etc.

i wonder who these belong to? i wonder how badly bluesky will compress this image?
close-up shot of some whiteish-clear insect eggs deposited onto a green leaf of a pachypodium succulentum. some of he cup-like eggs may already be open; some have dark colored splotches which are probably developing insects. i'm no entomologist, obviously.

we can have a little contest: find the #mating #crabs!
photograph of the edge of a marsh taken from the perspective of a walkway mounted over it.
the general tone of colors consists generally of litoral browns, grays, and greens. the shore, encrusted with bivalves and busy with the activity of small crabs, occupies the left end of the frame.
the murky greenish water slightly ripples; occupies the left of the frame.
in the shallows between shore and water some larger crabs may be seen, two of whom are in the midst of mating

tuned little (and big) #pipeorgan whistles the other day. and i did a good job; prior to this work these pipes chattered (that's totally a word) and chittered (also a word) against each other in a clamoring cacophony, but now they sing together with a beautiful, if evenly tempered, harmony 🎹🎶🥰

here's one solution to sagging zinc pipes in a #pipeorgan:
a peek through the grill in front of an internally lit organ chamber. on the ceiling are two loops holding shoestring which is tied to prevent mitered pipes sagging farther.

very few, indeed
tuning the posaune; by design, it's half- length for nearly the entire compass. it's available on the pedalboard only at 16' and 4'. this rank is on the loud side, so i prefer to wear ear protection.
image shows a hand using a particular tool to manipulate, by knocking a tuning wire up or down, the length of a vibrating free reed, which is housed in a boot and speaks into a resonator attached to the top of the boot.

i think that's a complete sentence, and i know the low-end of this rank would sound so much more impressive if it were full-length, but the orgelbewegung ruined a lot of that fun for us. also, full-length 16' pipes are very pricey.a view into a very tightly packed organ chamber. this is an original installation by Möller. with a little bit of customization to their factory-designed chests, they could have made it a lot less uncomfortable to tune this instrument, but again, pricey.

note the sagging zinc resonators at the low end of the pedal posaune.
sometime in the 70s, zinc suppliers changed the way they anneal the metal; the result was lots of sagging organ pipes.

my view on the way to my car earlier this evening, in pittsburgh-ish environs:
snowy scene at edge of a parking lot along a hillside. the big clumps of wet snow were falling fast and are illuminated by streetlight. the snow is sticking on ground which was green earlier the same morning.

i say this all the time
very large scale organ pipes. scale refers to the diameter. the largest pipe on the right is 32' the bottom of the mouth to the top of the pipe; the entire pipe including the foot down to the toe, therefore, is over 36' long.
don't skimp on the low-end; there's no replacement for displacement! 🔊

why does casavant frères put a ceiling over their instruments if it doesn't prevent water from reaching the #pipeorgan below?
a view from below a chest of organ pipes looking up through the hatch into a swell division chamber. plainly visible furthest away from the viewer is the ceiling installed by the #pipeorgan builder, casavant frères of quebec. the ceiling has once again failed to prevent water damage, but at least casavant was allowed to carry on with their expensive and superfluous practices

describe your bluesky account in a single image:
mr. pie porgan pictured inside a dark pipe organ chamber. he has a beard, long, shoulder length hair and is lit by flashlight up towards his face from below the frame. the lighting makes his hair seem lighter in tone than it actually is, something mr porgan's writing often fails to do. he stares ahead, blankly.

the white text against the blackened background reads, in bold, all capital impact font reads, "i see deaf people."

this is in no way a dig at actual deaf persons, but is kinda humorous if you think about it; he is depicted in the midst of tuning the instrument for folks out in the room who are supposedly listening, you know? 🎹 🎶 👂 😉

olestra is essentially a sucrose core bonded to 6, 7, or 8 fatty acid chains. the product is a mix of these; this example exhibits the 8 chain version.

just look at this stereoscopic view of a representative example of a molecule of olestra. that thing ain't passing through your intestinal wall! and as it passes through it will take along with it much of the fat-soluble vitamins and fats which would ordinarily be digested
