The fight must be fought with the awareness of the existence of peace, the knowledge of the possibility of happiness. It's there. Always. "Touch into it and keep going."

There are so many stories in old record books. (The Sarah mentioned here is probably a distant relative of mine. )

Here's what I sent to my two Texas Senators. Will it make any difference? Given their willful deafness on issues such as this...probably not. But that doesn't mean I won't speak up! (FYI, the typeface used on the image is called Glacial Indifference...)

Text on the background of an American flag: Dear Senators Cornyn and Cruz: If you’ve seen the video, you KNOW that Mrs. Macklin Good, whom federal agents killed in a Minneapolis neighborhood, was NOT attempting to ram their vehicles or run over an agent. The reckless action on the part of the supposedly elite Border Patrol Tactical Unit is inexcusable. It is criminal. PLEASE use your authority to rein in these out-of-control agents who are spreading terror and chaos on our city streets. Making cities safe? Give me a break!

Why is Jasmine Crockett sending me (in Texas) donation emails via "Fair Fight Colorado"? It concerns me that her national recognition will result in a bigger bankroll and a nomination for an election she can't win. I'm a huge fan of Crockett, but Talarico is our better choice in this Senate race.

Could there be a reason why WaPo chose to hype Black Friday rather than covering the nationwide boycott against billionaire brands? Maybe it's that WaPo is owned by the same guy who owns Amazon? BUY ONLY FROM SMALL BUSINESSES or direct from artists, crafters, and creatives. #aintbuyingit #boycott

In case anyone is curious, here are the events that were hosted in the East Room of the White House in 2009. What do you suppose DJT has in store? A UFC fight? Special club shows for his cronies and their guests? 🤬

When I was a child in the years before vaccines, I suffered measles, chickenpox, mumps (twice), and polio. I survived. But other children were not so lucky. Is this what we want to go back to? #CDC #vaccines #RFKjr

Hey central Texas! Come help me celebrate my new historical fiction novel, set in southern Mississippi in the early Jim Crow years. You'll find a lot of similarities with our current political drama.

As questions swirl about why many folks in central Texas were inadequately forewarned about dangerous weather, I decided to check my phone settings. The "local awareness" option had been switched OFF. I think that means I might not have received the alert if I'd been on the Guadalupe!

I got 2 compliments on my shirt at the HEB this morning. One was from a Latina carrying her <1-yo daughter. She said she was wearing black in honor of July 4. I saw a couple of other women wearing solid black (no logo, no message). If we want independence in America, we're gonna have to seize it.

Breaking free of Jeff Bezos and Amazon's insidious "free ISBN" numbers and reissuing the first 2 books of Recall Chronicles as THE RESISTANCE. Kirkus called the series "A vision of the future that's both harrowing and endlessly entertaining." Friday at Reverie Books. Soon on BookShop. Not on Amazon.

If you're in central Texas, join me at the State Capitol tomorrow (May 26) at noon in a read-in to oppose SB-13 and book bans in general. Texas currently leads the country in banned books. 😡

Map of the United States showing numbers of book bans by state. The only state with more than 750 banned books is Texas. Florida is close behind with more than 500.
