I love writing, reading, kindness, old films, people who are good at what they do, cooking and cheese. I hate bigots, people who buy the top twenty best-sellers for show, and anything in aspic. The Book Abattoir is out now. Website: wellandbooks.com

Another extract from the Monteverde Chronicles, my book inspired by the Andalusian village where I live. #WIPSnips #IndieAuthor #WritingCommunity #Stories
Text excerpt from The Monteverde Chronicles describing Father Pedro’s farewell to the village. He feeds rice to the ducks at the pond, tells Lorenzo, “I’ll miss those dickheads,” and leaves for his new life while the ducks promptly forget him.

I was recently asked what inspired my short novel, The Book Abattoir and it was this article on the BBC website about destructive scanning, which is a chilling prospect. www.bbc.com/news/article... I liken it to squeezing all of the juice from an orange, keeping the juice and throwing away the rest.

We had Peter and Jane and Pat the dog, if I remember right. After that we had Kitty and Rover - purple cover with pink writing, I think, then it was onto Bottersnikes and Gumbles and the Robber Hotzenplotz. I was hooked early. Mum used to give us jam donuts for finishing a book! The ones with cream!

After four and a half months without a drop of rain, we seem to be getting the lot today. The cats are hiding, the patio is flooded and the back door blew shut and we couldn't budge it! #Autumn

Published three books recently. Two of them - paid for a cover design and they were great. I ran out of money for the third book and reluctantly turned to AI. This is the cover. It's a 77 page thriller. I would love a human designed cover, but I have no aristic talent and no budget. Any suggestions?

When I was young, there was a TV programme called "One Man and His Dog". Each week they went to various parts of UK (and Ireland too, I think) and two or three farmers would compete to see whose dog was the best. It was gentle, absorbing viewing. The dogs were the stars.

People who have not bought my book, Fenlands. And why.

1. The Dalai Lama
“I come from Tibet. We don’t have any flat land. I can’t relate.”

2. Donald Trump
“I had Natalie ghost read it to me, but as it had no diet coke, and tasted bad, I quit.”

3. MAGA
Ordered 100,000 copies but couldn’t find anyone to read it to them and cancelled.

4. My parents
Being deceased is a poor excuse.

5. Everyone else
Because who the hell are you? I’ve never heard of you. You don’t even have an agent and you haven’t spent a penny on promotion and frankly, I doubt it’s that good anyway.

When I was young and stupid, I believed that justice was about right and wrong. Then I learned that it was more about who had the best lawyer. I didn't study law at university (despite my parents' urging) due to this imbalance between justice and the law. Now I am a poor writer rather than a rich KC

The opening of my new #WIP, "Supreme Danger and Gwen White, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Perhaps not the greatest novel on politics and power, but I am having enormous fun writing it! 📚 #amwriting #WritingCommunity #IndieAuthor #WIPSnips
An excerpt from Supreme Danger and Gwen White, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. The passage describes a fictional president mouthing the national anthem while staging a tear for the cameras, then reflecting on his repeated stump speech, attacks on foreigners, the press and the Supreme Court, and his frustration with the justices who have overturned his initiatives. It ends with the president noting that the justices are appointed for life and he cannot fire them.

It is expensive to go it alone, but the independence is worth all the tea in China (3.9 million metric tonnes), all the gold in Fort Knox ($640 Billion), or all the fish in the sea (3.5 trillion). NB: All numbers are approximate only. Do not quote me! #poorwriters #newbook #booksky #IndieAuthor
An informational image with a dark aesthetic. On the left side, a black cat is draped over a weathered, leather-bound book with the title "THE BOOK ABATTOIR" printed on its spine. On the right side, the text reads:

"The book is finished. I refuse to call it by the terrible name of novella or novelette. It's a short novel. A book. A story. It's 32,000 words. Too short? Needs more? No! It's exactly as long as it was meant to be.

What's it called? THE BOOK ABATTOIR
