I released sobosuba yesterday on steam :) store.steampowered.com/app/1946560/... It's basically ultra squishy suika game. Primarily fun but with some depth and careful design such that score-chasing requires strategy, tricks and skill.

re: the average person not knowing what computers can do I reached a similar conclusion while in an editorial design class last week. The teacher was having us manually replace duplicated spaces, newlines, etc through InDesign case by case. Just run a script! You can generate one yourself now!

there's a kind of "inverse XY problem" with AI, still if I ask to download an HTML doc and convert to Markdown, it may err and hallucinate. but if I ask for an html2md.py script and run it once, I'll get better results. but the average user doesn't know they have to "ask X if they want Y"

the omen #mermay
Digital painting of a giant ominous man, sitting cross legged, levitating in the sky, surrounding by flying giant oarfish, overlooking structures and buildings.

The man is a merfolk; mostly humanoid, but with a giant oarfish tail that he's sitting on. He's dressed in a religious tunic, with a red band resting over his shoulders, a helmet fashioned to look like an oarfish head, and he is holding a horn closely, as if he's about to blow it. The his sclera are bloodshot.

Around him are dozens of giant oarfish, rising from the sea and floating mid-ar. Beneath them are deserted buildings, homes and infrastructures.

Slightly more somber
"The Duel". The image shows a scene with bright towers, Jinn that looks like a skeleton, the Queen and the angel from my previous illustration "Angel's Whisper" and chessboard floor with chess piece on it. The story is about the Jinn who can duplicate themselves to play mind games with the Queen. There are mirrors in the middle ground showing intrusive thoughts to hurt the Queen. One image shows the angel stabbing the Queen, second one shows the Jinn kissing the angel, another image shows the angel become a skeleton and the last image shows the Jinn try on Queen's crown. The Queen and the Jinn in their material form are facing each other. The Queen is holding a sword and the Jinn is riding a bright red horse. The floor looks like chessboard with red and blue chess pieces. The artwork has a frame stylized in a similar way as the towers in the background. The artwork is mostly dark with green, blue and red accents. "Nurture"
The image shows a room with a woman sitting in the center holding a sleeping fawn. The woman has ginger hair and wears a red and pink dress and has big decorated head piece around her head. There are arched windows behind her and two cages. One cage is empty and another one has red snakes and a pale pink heart inside. The heart is floating above the snakes. There are three skeletons in the image. Two are on both sides of the woman and one is sitting on the ground reaching towards a deer. The floor is covered with roses and there are two deer on the floor. There are long blue columns on both sides of the image with pink snakes curling around the columns. There are two large skeletons on both sides of the image. They have the same hair as the woman and have snakes curling through their ribs. Red hearts float above them. The artwork is mostly blue and pink with some red accents. The image shows a bedroom with a large bed in the center. A woman is held by a skeleton. She is unconscious. She wears a blue dress and has bright ginger hair. There are cobras at the bottom of her dress. There's a big painting on the wall behind the bed with a unicorn fighting a cobra in a forest. There are three nuns seated on the right side and a big dog laying on the bed. There's a door with a boy in a long dress holding a vase with tulips. He has bright ginger hair. There's a skeleton nun behind him. There's a bear cub walking from the left side of the image. These may or may not be hallucinations the woman experiences wile feeling unwell.

Where did we get the letters of the alphabet from? And why does English use them so strangely? Here’s an excerpt from the new book, “Why Q needs U: A history of our letters and how we use them”, which takes you on a linguistic odyssey through the history of the alphabet:

Shen Comix @shenanigansen.bsky.social · 31/07/2025
Panel 1: Shen is happily running, grasping the string of a bright yellow balloon. The balloon is labeled "Self Esteem".

Panel 2: Life steps into the panel holding a needle to the balloon. Shen skids to a halt in front of Life but it's too late -- the needle has popped the balloon, it's shape still vaguely outlined in the air by the chunks of yellow rubber now falling apart.

Panel 3: Yellow balloon chunks rain down, a few landing on Shen's messy hair. He is distraught. He says: "Why"

Panel 4: Shen is surprised to find Life, backlit by the bright sun, now holding out a way BIGGER yellow balloon labeled "Self Esteem" towards him, offering it to him.

i wrote it the other way around, that’s why i was confused by the original tweet. i agree it’s just a gradient -- that’s why i was confused by the claim that flat design is gone

The polarized tribalism of our society originates from Babbage's difference engine. If he had instead designed an engine that unites rather than divides, imagine the course of development humanity could have taken

calculators make you dumber by the way, so do pen and paper and writing and books — they allow you to externalize and outsource cognition, thereby enabling the brain to not have to remember things and think about them
