Anybody can make a science film now! Turn a dense technical paper into a video accessible to a broad audience. I am quite impressed. The paper might be my last on multisensory perception. This project was started in 2008 and took 18 years to get published. Read more: acerbilab.org/one-cause-or...

One cause or two?
How does your brain know that a sight and a sound belong together? A short film about causal inference in perception, and about the shapes of its two ingredients: the blur of our senses, and our expec...

This was one of the cleanest, most straightforward projects I've ever done, from the hypothesis to the design to the conclusion. Of course still a lot of models, and it was made to look easy just because @jordanlei.bsky.social was so capable!

Don't you sometimes wish you had an undo button on your important decisions? A new paper from the lab starts examining what drives undo decisions in a multi-step planning task. www.nature.com/articles/s44...

Decision reversals in sequential decision-making - Communications Psychology
People often make sequences of decisions to reach a goal. In such situations, when decisions can be undone, people act faster and undo to correct errors. Undoing is driven by both retrospective and pr...

In our lab, we use a lot of planning tasks that are deterministic for simplicity. But stochasticity is an important aspect of real-world planning. Jordan Lei measured how the amount of stochasticity in the environment affects how much/deeply people plan: osf.io/preprints/ps...

This is an unusual one: the project started in 2009, with Trevor Holland collecting data in an auditory-visual integration paradigm with many conditions within subjects. But modeling it remained challenging over the years until Luigi Acerbi and Shuze Liu took it on. osf.io/preprints/ps...

I guess there has to be a moment to resume some social media activity. Here's a preprint from my PhD student, now postdoc Pei Yuan Zhang. A normative model (Bellman equations) works remarkably well to account for a range of qualitative effects related to procrastination. osf.io/preprints/ps...
