not that weird imo mormonism literally teaches that "As man now is, God once was; as God now is, man may be."

i'm surprised more critics don't paint the labs as hubristic and deluded efforts to create human-level machine intelligence they treat AGI as part of a marketing pitch rather than a sincere motivation of lab leaders if you look at the origin of these companies you see that the latter is the case

well tbf so far they have only agreed that pacing is a good idea, no implementation details yet and seems hard to design a viable implementation that doesn't require the govt to be involved

hmm on second thought yeah i suppose someone who got it explained by an e/acc would think the same or if it simply got simplified for conciseness or via game of telephone i weighed recent discourse too highly

e/acc (effective accelerationism) is a meme ideology created to troll those EAs concerned about AI

Milan Weibel 🔷 @weibac.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
EA is effective altruism wikipedia covers it fairly (i'm biased) but basically a movement taking a spreadsheet approach to doing the most good EAs donate to and work on for instance fighting malaria and improving farmed animal welfare but also some are concerned that AI might ruin the future

your document is entirely consistent with my claim it sets a decision boundary on either side of which takeover or cooperation are preferable and large power differences map to lower probability of takeover failure and lower takeover upfront cost, both favoring takeover according to the boundary

- big enough maybe doing a lot of work - coercion != war
000
Milan Weibel 🔷 @weibac.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
this is a strong objection however it is possible and imo even likely that the value of resources obtainable through coercion minus the costs of coercion is greater than the value of continued cooperation under a big enough power difference

granted the optimal incremental trajectory might include preserving humans at least at first

but why would the optimal setup need humans?

cybersecurity firms maybe? if they could learn model evals on the job or if they already know and i haven't noticed new orgs founded by non-EA benchmark-crafter academics? but who funds them is the issue

Milan Weibel 🔷 @weibac.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
i wonder if orgs capable of performing the embedded evaluator role that also aren't part of the EA ecosystem even exist
