I’ve been a fan of Gene since the mid-nineties and have seen them live many times, always in the UK. This week I travelled to València, in the east of Spain, to Visorfest, a festival for 80s/90s bands, to see them abroad for the first time. I flew out on Thursday evening with And

This week I have learned: the importance of play (part one): fascinated by the work Jude Pullen and Max Park’s latest experiment, the AI Divergence Engine. It’s made me realise that, un…

L found a basketball stand/hoop offered for free from a local family and set it up for the boys on the patio. I grumbled because it’s further creeping Americanisation of our children, but I have to concede it does get them active and playing together outside. I visited the school

This week I have learned: the enjoyment to be had at a marathon. Assuming that you’re doing the baggage, rather than running 26.2 miles which, from the look of it, looks like a laudable aim b…

This week, I was invited to a roundtable event in the Haymarket Hotel in London. The topic was (unsurprisingly) AI and how it had affected our operating models. I enjoyed it. There was an even split of optimism vs pessimism on a future with AI. We had a good cross-section of ten

The new school year began, with my boys now in years six and four. L is also back teaching on selected days, so I’ve returned to drop-off duties when she’s working. It won’t be long before neither son holds my hand on the walk to school, so I need to remember to savour it 🥹 Afte

This week I have learned: Spent a glorious weekend in the Cotswolds. Spending time with friends is so important. Meeting booths in offices have often been designed for a different era. The one I us…

TL;DR funding calls, user interviews and cake

We continued our holiday in Cornwall. The weather was mostly sunny all week, but on one cloudy, drizzly day we drove down to Falmouth on the south coast. The National Maritime Museum was fine, but didn’t grab the boys’ interest. We walked up the hill to Pendennis Castle and shelt

I’ve been away on holiday, so sorry if these weeknotes are a little late. I was a little busy holidaying. We were in Porthtowan, a little town on the north coast of Cornwall, staying in a cottage right by the beach with my parents. I squeezed myself into a wetsuit and surprised m

This week has flown by, but felt productive. Lots of getting things in order so we’re ready for work that’s kicking off in Autumn.

Another 2 week increment due to a couple of days off work last week as I was in Cornwall.

What I’ve been doing It’s been months since I’ve done weeknotes - which feels wrong as there’s been lots going on. The peak of excitement was being part of the team that ran a Booth at the AI For Good...

This week I have learned: How much people fear giving feedback. It’s a key work skill, and so few people have ever been trained in how to do it effectively. Quite how loud an MRI scanner is. …

This week I have learned: Some weeks are just hard. This was one of those weeks. Travel, emotional drain, the anticipation of eldest’s GCSE results. And I only had four days off actual work. …

Unlike many whose first thought was impending armageddon, when this week’s government-triggered mobile alert came through to our phones, I was sitting next to my wife and my assumption was that she had somehow caused the noise by watching an annoying Instagram Reel. Sorry, L. We

TL;DR Messing about in boats, endings/beginnings and impending rest

This week I have learned: the joy of rediscovering a fountain pen and paper. And then seeing what happens if I feed my daily note taking into Claude. So far, it’s curious, but not necessarily…
