Here is my favourite Staff and Branch dice box, a tree in gorgeous autumn colours. One of the boxes from the inadvertent double order from @seananmcguire.bsky.social.

Did you have a chance to visit the William deGarthe Gallery? We had our family vacations in nearby Mahone Bay during the 60’s. A Peggy’s Cove visit was a staple event, and deGarthe was still painting in his studio at that time. I have several prints and even a couple of small originals.

Many thanks to Tim, aka @staffandbranch.bsky.social! I discovered his outstanding dice box creations via @seananmcguire.bsky.social back on the old site (during its pre-fascist days). Lucky enough to purchase one of boxes from Seanan’s duplicate order when mail delivery was so unreliable.

My mother’s family moved from Newfoundland to Halifax, where she was born. I learned to play on a family heirloom, a board carved from a walrus tusk, with sliver trim borders. This was passed down to me because I spent four summers studying walruses on an uninhabited island in Northern Hudson Bay.

This is my second choice. Gate of Ivrel is number one, the first of many CJ Cherry books, and the first of a wealth of outstanding @michaelwhelan.bsky.social covers. It captures the heart of the story in my mind.
White-haired Morgaine stands triumphantly with arms stretched overhead as she draws a gleaming sword from its sheath. A gate frames her from behind. The central portal is filled with a field of stars and the outer edge of the gate is patterned with futuristic circuitry. On one knee before Morgaine, a warrior grips the handle and crossguard of a curved sword with the tip of the blade planted in the ground.

I am fascinated by them too, but their fragility inspires an uneasy sense of dread following the massive ice storm in southern Quebec, eastern Ontario, and parts of northern New England that we endured in early January 1998. 🥶

And now it’s providing a home for the Dark Fantasy Tarot card deck from @jedwardneill.bsky.social.
Rectangular sapele tarot deck box with a large blue and black epoxy filled ovate cutout where silver phases of the moon are up top and a luna moth resides below. The top is sitting below the base. The centre has a circle and place around the circle for storage of crystals and or tea lights etc. There are two places for a tarot deck on either side, it is home to the Dark Fantasy Tarot deck by artist J. Edward Neill.

The card displayed on the left is the Queen of Cups, a slender female figure facing to her right. She is dressed in a black gown and is holding a stemmed glass in her right hand. Her hair consists of a tangle of black snakes, as a gorgon is usually depicted. A black cat is sitting at her feet, looking up at her. The background is grey on the left, a mixture of grey, light green, and purple in the middle, and darker purple on the right.

The card on the right is the Queen of Swords, with long dark hair and wearing a suit of dark armour and a long black cloak. She is holding a long sword with the tip resting on the ground. The sword has a few wicked hooks near its tip. The background is a mixture of shades of green with a darker border, possibly an out of focus forest setting.

The card in the centre has a brief description of the card deck, in white lettering on a predominantly dark background.

The resin in the left hand box depicts a tree in autumn foliage. The leaves are a mixture of green, orange and gold.

Brrrr! Shades of a novel that I read in Grade 9, The Furies by Keith Roberts (author of Pavane). That said, my brother and one of my friends had a phobia around wasps so I was the one painted around the nests during our summers working as house painters while in university. Good times!
