Been hunting for a good public garden in Chicago, which I’m discovering is surprisingly sparse in the public garden department. Anyway, here’s Prairie Ave - once Chicago’s millionaires row. These are all contemporary but gotta say that I wish we built new stuff like this all over the city.

Abhorrent in every conceivable way. A country of barbarism and a state that is happy and willing to intimidate its citizens.

I wasn’t on the Ossoff train when the murmuring started but after watching clips of this debate I get it. Between Mamdani, Al-Sayed, and Ossoff today it felt good to see some fight finally.

I got off at that station just 4 hours earlier and waited in that plaza to grab my bus. I feel terrible for this person’s family. And the green line and that whole section of the west side is still wild, crime is out of control.

My two flat was part of a pair as well but was demolished years ago. There’s this pretty archway over the entrance where it would have connected to a matching archway next door.

I remember when Biden’s job numbers would come in at 250k and they were “disappointing”, “tepid”. Trump gets 75k and it’s “robust” and “hot”. Glad to see CNN call it out, these numbers suck because the economic theory of Republicans is based on looting.

If we are going to believe the data we are looking at a 55% rise in long term unemployment since 2023 and a labor force participation rate that just ticked up from a 5yr low. 2025 bankruptcies were up 11%. Brookings reported 45% of Americans can’t afford their basic needs.

You have to admit it’s a bad look though. This administration is wildly corrupt and constantly manipulating the markets. I’m just surprised there isn’t more skepticism about the data from a civil service that is now required to submit loyalty oaths. This isn’t a normal administration.

I think what maybe is being missed here, unless I’m misunderstanding this thread, is that Trump fired the BLS head when they posted numbers he didn’t like. It throws into question the validity of the gov data. And it’s hard to defend anecdotal data but so many in my circle can’t find work.

This needs to be said more and more. The weaponizing of gentrification terminology is leading to terrible outcomes for cities - it reinforces segregation, gatekeeps generational wealth building, contributes to the housing crisis, etc. Neighborhoods are not static and shouldn’t be.

The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry’s proposed Welcome Hall would spoil one of Chicago's "great urban vistas" and should be sent back to the drawing board, writes Sun-Times architecture critic Lee Bey.

If you’re posting publicly the assumption is you’re open to feedback and discussion from others. Acting like someone has swooped in on your dms or a private discussion is weird behavior. I realize everyone is angry and in a bad mood but civility is a virtue and just be nice unless given a reason.

Yes, sorry the expectation for civility from strangers on a publicly visible discussion I decided to join in on is a character flaw on my part. Appreciate the welcoming discourse.

I don’t understand why everyone is so angry and snarky in this thread. Are bicyclists getting ticketed and fined en masse on this issue right now or something? I don’t personally care about the Idaho stop (actually from Idaho) and will continue to stop but like geez guys. Chill.

It is the law in Illinois and when I bike I do a full stop. Safer for everyone, myself included, and I don’t really understand the inconvenience for other bicyclists. Sure it slows down your momentum and it might slow down your trip but better than not getting there at all.

I’m surprised that would take longer than building new! That’s crazy. It’s a beautiful bridge, I hope it stays.

webertown.bsky.social @webertown.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
What I don’t get on this is wouldn’t it taken even longer to deconstruct the bridge and then design, plan, and build a new one from scratch??

Has no one in the media picked up on the fact that the President of the United States is charging $88,600 for a photo op? It’s straight up Nazi code and it seems to either not have been noticed or it’s getting a pass. It’s incredibly blatant.

Uh, anyone else catch the cost to have your photo taken with Trump? $88,000. Seems like a very very specific number….

Any other Chicagoans feeling like summers here are becoming over programmed? I feel like for months I have struggled to find any kind of chill quiet public space. It is nonstop concerts, events, festivals, parties, PA systems, constantly day or night, every corner of the city.

Omg I just went to the website and checked out the registration. Charging people to ride their bike is the most US thing ever. A family of four pack is almost $200 and it makes a point of saying no tshirt, lol. Gtfo. I hate it here.

I know by US standards etc etc, but we really need to have a more critical approach to the cta instead of accepting it because it could be so much worse and it could be Des Moines or whatever. Our ridership per mile based on the population is terrible and it’s because people don’t want to use it.

I was just in Toronto and Montreal and man, it was such a nice change. Never waited more than 5min for a train no matter time of day, kids rode for free, no smokers. This is the case every time I go abroad, obvs, but being back and schlepping around in the cta again *sucks*.

I’ve always been bewildered that a city this size doesn’t have a transit system that is at least bilingual in audible english and spanish. A doors on your right or left would also be helpful for those with disabilities.
