Thanks for including me Dave! I also wanted to tell you I talked about haibun a little in the new book of lyric essays (probably not as eloquently as some) Field Guide to Writing the Lyric Essay from Rose Metal Press. The essay is about mutants and mutated forms. Thought you might be interested!

Super similar to your list but add Toy Story 5. Not sure what that means.

Agree! More feminist poetry, too, I’ve found.

Thank you! It sounds like a great book. Sometimes it's hard for us in the US to get the books we want from the UK or Canada (which - they're just up the road from me? Why??)

Your response was also understandable (as a former Christian camp counselor.) Yuck. I apologize on behalf of the entire religion, which sometimes seems filled with racist jerks. May you have many days w/o jerks.

My favorite movie at age 20 was Joe Versus the Volcano. And just yesterday I discovered the guy who played the limo driver was an avant-garde director in the 70s married to an activist poet. Hidden secrets of old movies. That movie was of the better meditations on death and courage.

So many good posts this week. Kate Gale's post and the post about writers volunteering their time definitely hit the mark, if the mark is "why am I doing this again? Am I crazy? (The answer is probably yes.) "

Thanks for including me, and what a fascinating discussion of resistance, the responsibility of the artist in hard times, and the question of why poetry in a world that feels like it's falling apart.

Yes, but Jeff, if you destroy the humans, who will sustain your luxurious way of life? Think about it. Data centers can't buy things! LOL.

They're so beautiful! I have seen several scarlet tanagers out here, but never seen an indigo bunting - I'm jealous! I never thought I'd become one of "those" bird people (I'm remembering "the Big Year") but I was so excited! If I was a little tougher I'd probably be a more professional birder lol!

I mean, more awareness, sure, but also more seeing nature as something valuable, worth keeping, worth protecting. I don't know how to make that message any clearer than someone spending time in a beautiful natural setting.

I mean, I can't say I'm not a little excited the American football team is going to the next round! GOAAAAAAL! (Also, I really enjoy watching a sport I understand all the rules of because I played it. That's a foul! That's offsides! That's flopping! Etc.)

Yes, it was the kind of thing you see in old movies - someone having a tooth cause that swelling and having to get it worked on. I was like, where's my shot of whiskey and donkey (isn't how they fixed these things in the old days?) Now it's seven days of amoxicillin and a root canal. Less romantic!

As usual, Dave, thanks for including me, and I always enjoy reading the thoughts of other poets - slut walking, Red Comets, Italian sonnets and all. I'm still not back to my old self, but it definitely kept me entertained!

Well, I read the Pulitzer Prize winner in Poetry this week. It had some interesting bits, but wasn't the best book of poetry I read this last year. You might be want to look at the prose piece in the middle, which was politically themed. Mini review on the blog.
