Rebekah Del Rio has been gone more than a year, passing a few months after David Lynch. I miss them both. Frequently. The photo is RDR with me and my husband in 2015, when I met her during a Seattle Women’s Chorus concert in which she was the very special guest. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/11/a...

Today’s pointless and pedantic irritation with Apple is in regard to dictation on the Mac. If I dictate, “oh-oh-oh,” why does it transcribe, “zero-zero-zero?” O ≠ 0 “O” (the letter O) is not a number. “0” (the number zero) is not a letter. #Apple #AppleUnintelligence
The letter “O” does not equal the number “zero.”

We had a visit by an impressive Eratigena atrica this morning. The bottle beside her is 4 inches in diameter. I’m happy to report that she survived the transition from the hand vac to the garden, seemingly unscathed.

When this POTUS says, “You know that” or, “Everyone knows that,” what he’s really saying is, “Here’s a brazen lie that I’m going to convince you is truth through repetition.” The truth that needs to be repeated over and over is that this POTUS is a devoted follower of Joseph Goebbels and Roy Cohn.
An AI-generated political cartoon of Donal Trump speaking angrilly at the reader, with Joseph Goebbels speaking into one ear and Roy Cohn speaking into the other.

Goebbels says, “SAY IT LOUDER... SAY IT OFTEN... MAKE THEM BELIEVE IT.”

Cohn says, “ATTACK. DENY. LIE. NEVER APOLOGIZE.”

Am I the only Adobe InDesign user whose response to the relentless in-app marketing of Express makes me want to switch to literally any other layout program? @adobe.com: Please back off all the damn nagging. Pros do not like being hounded constantly while we work. We all hate you enough already.

Ouch. Turns out this wasn’t my imagination… but why can’t employers step out of the “norm” in support of their workers? I know, I know… not a serious question. 🫤 overcast.fm/+ABOv9oAwtKA

The average worker in the U.S. who stayed in their job between 2021 and 2024 saw their wages decline by 9% after inflation, a new paper finds.
While the gap between wage growth and inflation is smaller now, that doesn't undo the bad news of a few years ago. And this decline in real wages may be at the root of poor consumer sentiment.

[Seattle’s] local legacy media is everything in terms of the crime narrative.

It’s a system, mostly owned by rightward leaning—if not outwardly MAGA—CEOs: Sinclair, KOMO, KIRO, KING-5, FOX…

It definitely dictates the discourse, and it’s a very asymmetrical media environment.

Imagining Trump as the head vampire whose defeat turns the brood to dust is an empty fantasy. A stake through the heart of a figurehead can’t destroy its bloodline; if the evil that created the monster remains, other vampires will emerge to drain the blood of the living. www.etsy.com/listing/1903...

Homemade Seattle Dog Damn tasty… but not as good as Dogs in the Park. Uncured beef weiner, well-grilled onions, peppers and red cabbage, cream cheese and spicy brown mustard on a toasted hoagie.

I would never claim to know who makes “the best” #SeattleDog, but I always love the version made at Dog in the Park. They’re in downtown Seattle just by Sephora in Westlake Park, and at the Seattle Center. Their mix of well-grilled veggies on top always hit just right. doginthepark.wordpress.com

Right… but if we’re seriously addressing causes, we shouldn’t overlook the chain of events that began September 8, 1974. When the pendulum of accountability slices back from that swing, it had better cut the heads off of every criminal politician who’s been let off the hook for over half a century.
The pardon of Richard Nixon (officially, Proclamation 4311) was a presidential proclamation issued by Gerald Ford, the president of the United States, on September 8, 1974, granting a full and unconditional pardon to Richard Nixon, his predecessor, for any crimes that he might have committed against the United States as president. In particular, the pardon covered Nixon's actions during the Watergate scandal. In a televised broadcast to the nation, Ford, who had succeeded to the presidency upon Nixon's resignation, explained that he felt the pardon was in the best interests of the country and that the Nixon family's situation was "a tragedy in which we all have played a part. It could go on and on and on, or someone must write the end to it. I have concluded that only I can do that, and if I can, I must."

After Ford left the White House in 1977, he privately justified his pardon of Nixon by carrying in his wallet a portion of the text of Burdick v. United States, a 1915 U.S. Supreme Court case where the dictum stated that a pardon carries an imputation of guilt and that its acceptance carries a confession of guilt.

The scientific term for this is HORSESHIT #Seattle @kingcountymetro.bsky.social - If you ride Metro, you’re familiar with that occasional ride that feels like you're a chandelier in a shipwreck. These are not normal and Metro has channels for reporting, but somehow the cameras never show anything.

School’s out Bus full
Camera pointed down in a crowded bus with multiple standees, all wearing extremely baggy, worn denim that are very long, dragging on the red-speckled vinyl floor. Unspoken is the implication that these are young, high school-age girls, packing the bus after school, and illustrating the current fashion trend in that cohort.

QUESTION: What concerns, if any, do you have about Al?

RESPONSE: Wow... Global economic ruin. Mass unemployment. Destruction of entire sectors of labor. Bioweapons. Endless international malware attacks. Rapidly accelerated climate disaster. The end of privacy.
Social upheaval. Widespread psychosis. Supercharged disinformation and propaganda assaults. Techno-autocracy. Humanity turned into the batteries for machines envisioned in The Matrix... I could go on.

"Every human being has a basic nature of goodness, which is undiluted and unconfused. That goodness contains tremendous gentleness and appreciation. As human beings we can make love. We can stroke someone with a gentle touch; we can kiss someone with gentle understanding. We can appreciate beauty. We can appreciate the best of this world. We can appreciate the yellowness of yellow, the redness of red, the greenness of green, the purpleness of purple. Our experience is real. And when we appreciate reality, it can actually work on us. We may have to get up in the morning after only a few hours’ sleep, but if we look out the window and see the sun shining, it can cheer us up. We can actually cure ourselves of depression if we recognize that the world we have is good." — Chögyam Trungpa

I knew it when I saw the “Die With a Smile” video with Lady Gaga performatively sing-smoking to the adoring praise of critics. Great song, deadly framing, and a disgusting, nihilist, hopeless social movement, a sadly understandable response to the state of humanity in the 2020s archive.today/fgyLE
