As we mourn, we think of what Tom would say: “Be excellent to each other.”

Emerald City Supporters @weareecs.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

Tom’s mark on ECS and the people in it will never be forgotten. The outpouring of support and compassion as this news spread among friends is a fitting honor to the man who was always there to support friends going through difficult times.

Tom lived these values in everything he did.

Tom was there when ECS was ejected from BC Place the first day we raised the “Anti-Fascist | Anti-Racist | Always Seattle” banner. Tom was in the matchday trenches and at the table in Las Vegas when we fought the league to allow the Iron Front anti-fascist flag to fly.

Emerald City Supporters @weareecs.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

While those on-field wins are meaningful, Tom would count amongst his greatest successes what we achieved defining and making sure ECS lives up to our Anti-Fascist Anti-Racist identity.

As ECS co-president from 2016 to 2024, Tom was part of so much we have accomplished. Celebrating MLS Cup late into the freezing night in Toronto in 2016, doing it again on a not-quite-as-cold afternoon in 2019 in the streets of Seattle, and once more for the CONCACAF Champions League in 2022.

Tom has been a stalwart of ECS since joining the group in 2013, always to be found where the group was, with a friendly greeting and a raised glass.

Tom’s love for ECS and the Sounders knew no bounds, whether it be on away trips to far away places or the endless hours of volunteer work that make ECS happen.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of former ECS co-president Tom Biro.
