Fan Karen Pearlston died in mid-September. Pearlstein was active in Toronto fandom in the 1970s and participated in fanzine fandom, founding the APA Spinoff. She also published the APAzine Under the Snakes.

Fan Myron Deutch (b.1947) died on September 20. Deutch was a frequent attendee at Capricon and Windycon and attended Chicon when the Worldcon was in Chicago. He worked at the Brisol Renaissance Faire for several years.

Fan Kathy Mar (b.1951) died on September 23. Mar began performing on the filk scene in the early 1980s. She was a guest at many conventions, including a Special Musical Guest at Devention 3. She was a multiple Pegasus Award winner.

Fan Charles Mohapel died on September 18. Mohapel was often scene behind a camera at Worldcons and other conventions and fannish events. He was a member of the Ottawa Science Fiction Society. In 1998, Mohapel was nominated for an Aurora Award for Fan Achievement.

Fan Duane Elms (b.1944) died on September 10. Elms attended Lunacon and other East Coast conventions in the 1980s and participated in filk and the masquerades. He eventually moved back to New Mexico.

Fan Anne Davenport died on September 5. Davenport served as secretary for the International Costumers Guild and was a Master Costumer. She wrote Star Trek fanfiction and worked on numerous Worldcons.

Author Will Murray (b.1953) died on August 24. Murray was a pulp fan and wrote many novels with a pulp sensibility. He edited books for Necronomicon Press and his own short stories appeared in numerous anthologies. Among his comic book achievements was the creation of Squirrel Girl.

Bookseller Thomas Loock died in late February. Loock ran a science fiction bookstore in Hamburg in the early 1980s and later founded the game and book publishing house Citadel, which later became Laurin.

Fan Rick Katze (b.1944) died on August 27. Katze was a member of MCFI and a Fellow of NESFA. Katze edited books by Poul Anderson, Eric Frank Russell, A.E. van Vogt, and Judith Merril for NESFA Press. He chaired three Boskones and helped run many cons. He negotiated the Constellation bail out.

Author and editor David Kopaska-Merkel (b.1957) died on August 26. Primarily a poet, Kopaska-Merkel edited Dreams & Nightmares beginning in 1986, Star*Line from 1996-2002, and 9 volumes of the Rhysling Anthology. He also published several short stories and served as president of the SFFPA.

Comic book author Roger McKenzie (b.1950) died on August 21. McKenzie introduced a darker tone to Daredevil and was also known for his work on Captain America. He began publishing with Vampirella.

Fan Michael Stern (b.1942) died on June 29. Stern was a fan of Doc Smith, Zelazny, Asprin, and alternate history who was introduced to con running and fandom through LASFS. He was a long-time gamemaster. He volunteered in a variety of con-running activities and was active in Renissance Faires.

Fan Robin Johnson (b.1937) died on July 6. Johnson chaired Thylacons 1-3 and published Nortsdtilian News. He chaired Aussiecon in 1975 and was the fan GoH at Aussiecon 4. He won the Ditmar in 1983 and the Big Heart in 2009.

Author Maureen Duffy (b.1933) died on May 27. Duffy was a campaigner for LGTBQ rights and published the novels Capital, Gor Saga, and Alchemy. Her novel Scarborough Fear was published under the name D.M. Cayer. Duffy also wrote The Erotic World of Faery.

Author Russell Kirkpatrick (b.1961) died on June 26. Kirkpatrick wrote the Fire of Heaven novels and the Broken Man novels. Kirkpatrick was the deputy editor of the New Zealand Historical Atlas and has the largest LEGO collection in New Zealand.

Author Dafydd ab Hugh (b.1960) died in late June. Ab Hugh published the two volume Arthur War Lord series and five Deep Space Nine novels as well as other media tie-in novels. His story “The Coon Rolled Down and Ruptured His Larinks, A Squeezed Novel by Mr. Skunk” was a Nebula nominee.

Publisher Tom Clegg (b.1957) died on May 5. Clegg worked at Bragelonne SF and issued numerous translations of Anglophonic science fiction in French. He co-edited the anthology Science-Fiction 2006.

Author Jane Yolen (b.1939) died on June 11. She wrote books and novels for all ages, including Briar Rose, How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, and The Devil’s Arithmetic. Yolen won 2 Nebulas, a World Fantasy and was named Grand Master by SFPA, SFWA and World Fantasy. She served as SFWA President.

Fan John Thiel (b.1945) died on March 25 from metastatic cancer. Thiel was active in the National Fan Federation and earned the Kaymar Award in 2017 and the Franson Award in 2022. He published more than 400 issues of the fanzine Pablo Lennis and 54 issues of the webzine Surprising Stories.

Editor Ted White (b.1938) died on May 24. White was an assistant editor of F&SF before editing Amazing and Fantastic from 1968-1979. He co-chaired Nycon 3, the 1967 Worldcon, won a Best Fan Writer Hugo in 1968 and was GoH at Aussiecon Two in 1985. White chaired Lunacons 11-13.

Game designer Lou Zocchi (b.1935) died on April 15. Zocchi was an editor of The General and designed Luftwaffe, Alien Space, and Star Fleet Battle Manual. He invented the hundred-sided die known as the Zocchihedron. He was inducted into the Academy of Adventure Gaming’s Hall of Fame in 1987.
