This is rich. Connie Chan says she “built real affordable housing, not the Sacramento version that destroys our neighborhoods.” She points to new affordable housing on Geary: housing that she didn’t build but that *was* built using “Sacramento version” housing laws & $52M in state funds. 🧵

*cracks knuckles* we are out here at Planning to support the Family Zoning Plan. It’s the next item up. We were already counterprotested at the rally this morning, so expect a rowdy crowd and lots of comment

Folks. It’s finally happening. After 2.5 years of meetings, and countless years of advocacy prior, including the passage of numerous state laws to reform the CA housing planning regime known as “RHNA” we finally have a draft proposal to change SF’s zoning codes 😍 www.sfexaminer.com/news/housing...

I introduced CEQA legislation (SB 607) to avoid CEQA being used to stop new housing & make other smart changes to aspects of CEQA that turn it into a process nightmare that doesn’t always help the environment. SB 607 will help create abundance of the things that make life better & more affordable:🧵

Loved Ezra Klein’s recent podcast about this, itself not the best example of attention capture but a great discussion of how it plays out in politics: open.spotify.com/episode/3kD2...

Today is bad. Here’s a whale. I hope it helps. His name is AP9 “Red” and he is from the southern Alaska resident killer whale population.

Optimizing for a hypothetical end result. Is that something that will serve one well if they have an eventual career as a pro game dev? For sure! But, is it necessary if the only current goal is to make a single game? Absolutely not!

There’s always a trade off between accurate simulation and ease of use, but the way they create fun is not always obvious. Realistic simulation is fun, and immersive in that it closely reflects reality, but intuitive simplified interaction gives good input to outcome feedback, also immersive and fun

Socializing with strangers can be super awkward, but is also a core mechanic and significant driver of retention in modern multiplayer games. What provides you the security to communicate? Especially in VR, where embodiment makes everything more real, this seems like a major design hurdle… #vr #mr

New fav idea in XR: Self-Haptic Feedback (developers.meta.com/horizon/reso...). The pinch gesture is so great because you get a "click" feedback on your own finger. Seems like this idea could be expanded- most people close their fist when grabbing, for example, so why not lean into that?
