Sex can be used in a way that is self harm. Risky sex is self harm. Putting yourself in an environment that could potentially go wrong is self harm. These are strangers he is meeting and he’s meeting someone new what appears to be on a nightly weekly night basis. That could get him hurt.

In my opinion it’s also really naïve to believe that he wouldn’t push himself past that boundary because he thinks that he needs to be punished. Honestly I could see him getting seriously hurt because he didn’t say word because he felt it was what he deserved. That is not healthy. that is self harm.

I see it in the manga/manhwa fandom all the time. Movies, tv shows (especially GOT and AHS). People talking about the new release is normal and happens immediately. It is to be expected. It is YOUR responsibility to avoid spaces or scroll quickly.
