National Coming Out Day Oct 11th I came out in 1983. I was 18. My mother knew I was gay, but hoped she could get me to marry a woman so she could have grandchildren. After she got that, she wouldn't care. My father believed that my being gay was a sign of weakness in his fatherhood.
