Inspired by two tweets from @/VanillaDeluxe #htf #happytreefriends #flaky #flammy
Flaky (from Happy Tree Friends) smiling proudly while wearing a Lammy T-shirt.Screenshot of a tweet from @VanillaDeluxe. It features a screencap from the "Blurb" version of the Happy Tree Friends episode "Stealing the Spotlight" where Flaky is labeled "Member of Team Lammy." The actual tweet text reads as follows:
"doing flaky research and i cant believe ive never seen this flammy crumb before dude </3 I need to watch more blurbs"Screenshot of another tweet from @VanillaDeluxe. (It was originally a quote retweet of the last one, though you can't really tell that from this photo alone.) The text reads:
"Flaky was a Lammy day 1 this is very important to the Flammy agenda"

The agreement allows them to create brand-new merch for the shows involved, but that's not all they can do. The press release also mentions in-person experiences (like pop-up shops), temporary cafes, and collabs with other brands as examples.

Been quite a while since I've posted here - all I really have to show is this Nebula & Quasar meme drawover I did a couple months back. #NAQ #NebulaAndQuasar #NAQTube
Simple art of Celeste (from Nebula & Quasar) standing in her lab, holding a futuristic ray gun whose business end is glowing. A caption overlaid on the picture reads "somebody plsss break into my lab, i've been dying to use this."The original meme, depicting someone standing in their home while holding a shiny mace. Overlaid on the picture is text reading "somebody plsss break in my house, i been dying to use this."

I'm leaning towards the backer rewards. Oni's done "Premium Direct" campaigns before & since that seem more like glorified pre-orders than proper crowdfunding campaigns. This is why the original goal was so low - I imagine it's also to make the final total seem more impressive (>30,000% funded!)
Excerpt from the Murder Drones Kickstarter page. Transcript:
"Now, utilizing the unique capabilities of Kickstarter, the Oni Press Premium Direct program can reach farther than ever before and give casual readers, die-hard fans, and long-time collectors alike the opportunity to obtain expertly curated, specially manufactured editions of comics, graphic novels, and merchandise inspired by Oni’s most beloved series that would typically be unobtainable at the retail level.

The core components of each and every Premium Direct offering will ultimately have a simplified, mass-market version released in short order after a campaign has fulfilled. But, in the meantime, Premium Direct campaigns such as this one will be the ONE AND ONLY place to ensure you’re able to reserve the meticulously upgraded, exclusively produced versions of venerated titles – new, old, and yet-to-be revealed – from the Oni vault."

One of the teasers confirms the 7 zones are all from Gens, so you're right on the money about that. I hope it plays well. The art is frankly very disappointing - all the years-old stock renders cheaply plastered on it make it look like a lunchbox or something. (Was Sega restricting JJP, perhaps?)
Screenshot from one of JJP's teasers for their Sonic pinball machine. It shows the center-bottom portion of the playfield, including the seven Chaos Emeralds & the Master Emerald atop a list of levels from the series: Seaside Hill, Sky Sanctuary, Speed Highway, City Escape, Rooftop Run, Chemical Plant, and Green [Hill].

Belated update: I didn't notice this until yesterday, but according to the checklist (also at the end of issue 4), Gigi Dutreix will also be working on issue 6's art along with Jo Mi-Gyeong.
An excerpt from the end of Murder Drones #4 by Oni Press - specifically, a page with a checklist of every issue in the series. #5 and #6 are shown here - Wyatt Kennedy (the writer) is credited for both, as is artist Gigi Dutreix, but Jo Mi-Gyeong (who did the artwork for the first four regular issues) is also credited for #6.

If the preview at the end of issue 4 is accurate, then issue 5 of Oni Press's Murder Drones comic will be illustrated by @/geedutreix.bsky.social‬! Compare the cover released during the issue's initial solicitation, which credits regular artist Jo Mi-Gyeong instead. #MurderDrones
One of the last pages of Murder Drones #4 by Oni Press. It's a preview for issue 5 showing its "A" cover (done by Alessio Zonno), which depicts a terrified N being pulled into a fleshy hellscape by several drone arms with disconcertingly human-like hands. That's not important right now, though - what IS important is the topmost part, which credits Wyatt Kennedy (the series' writer) and Gigi Dutreix (presumably the issue's artist). Below it are more credits: in addition to Zonno, Kennedy, and Dutreix, Joana Lafuente (the series' colorist) is also listed. An earlier version of issue 5's "A" cover, taken from ComicsBeat's article on Oni's solicitations for June 2026. (The issue has since been pushed into July.) The art is the same, but Jo Mi-Gyeong (the comic's regular artist) is credited where the newer cover mentions Dutreix.

I think they're actually doing issue 5's interior artwork! #4 ends with a promo that has their name where earlier previews (i.e. www.comicsbeat.com/oni-press-ju...) put Jo Mi-Gyeong, which I figure indicates plans changed during production. It's not official yet, per se, but it seems very likely.

Cover A for issue 6 of Oni Press's Murder Drones, done by Alessio Zonno. It focuses on "Cynessa" (the Absolute Solver simultaneously possessing Cyn and wearing Tessa's flesh), smiling brightly as she stands opposite of Uzi and N within a hellscape of her own making. What I can only describe as tentacles of pure energy reach out from her back all across the sky, which is also dotted with warning signs.Cover B for issue 6 of Oni Press's Murder Drones, done by Jo Mi-Gyeong. It depicts Uzi and N holding hands, smiling, and catching fire as they re-enter orbit. "Cynessa"'s ever-cheerful visage looms above them.Transcript:
"The global animation phenomenon comes to its stunning conclusion in this thrilling and hilarious comics adaptation from writer Wyatt Kennedy (Nights, Wiccan: Witches' Road) and the otherworldly art of Jo Mi-Gyeong (Power Rangers).
It all ends here! Uzi and her friends must now face the existential reality that is THE ABSOLUTE SOLVER as she discovers that the true fight is not with the beast itself, but with the beast WITHIN! The key to defeating this world-ending virus lies deep within her, in a fight that has been waged before, and will be again tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow . . . or something. Whatever, feelings are dumb. BITE ME!"

Writer Wyatt Kennedy has made it clear that he needed to be economical while adapting the series to such a short miniseries - I can't be sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was internally pushing for additions like the Home special and the extra pages for the main series
Excerpt from an interview with Wyatt Kennedy on Comic Book Club Live.

The interviewer asks "What was your process in adapting the series? They’ve clearly got a ton of material, but I assume it was more complicated than slapping their storyboards on a page and calling it a day."

Kennedy responds "I mean, yes and no? Haha! Glitch was very specific in being as close to the original show in terms of dialogue and structure, so as far as describing visuals for [artist Jo Mi-Gyeong], I just did my best and finding the most economic paneling (especially since Murder Drones has a lot of complicated set pieces) but I did have two monitors in front of me while I was working, one that had the show playing and the other being my Pages document. It was very technical in a lot of ways."

I think some people on MDtwt are way too quick to blame the comic's faults on the staff and not Oni Press management - more specifically, whoever set the initial page count/release schedule (Relevant excerpt from one of my favorite comic-related articles, by Augie De Blieck Jr.)
Excerpt from "Comic Reviewers Should Try Making Comics" by Augie De Blieck, Jr. of Pipeline Comics.

Transcript:
"Bottom line: I think we don’t give creators nearly enough credit. I think we’re all too quick to assume the worst case scenario without thinking about what might really be going on. We judge the creator for their creation without knowing the circumstances that surrounded them.

Heck, I’d submit that office politics have more to do with ruining the comics you blame 'bad' creators for than the creators, themselves.

For example, Ron Zimmerman once wrote an extremely crappy issue of 'The Punisher.' You know what? He wrote it with an impossible deadline that left no time for thought, from what I heard. What came out was a miracle of the superhero comic production assembly line. It stunk, but it was as much a victim of the process as it was the creator who didn’t have time to think through his idea."

Breaking news: Oni Press has just announced that they will be adapting episode 5 of Murder Drones into a standalone, extra-long issue! This is separate from the six-issue adaptation of the series, but I think it will be included in the trade collection (the "graphic novel"). #MurderDrones
Three covers for Oni Press's Murder Drones: Home special. From left to right:
- Cover B (by Jo Mi-Gyeong, artist of the regular comic series) shows N as a worker drone, standing terrified as lightning illuminates bloody handprints on the tall window behind him. A raven with a strange eye hovers near his hand.
- Cover A (by Alessio Zonno) shows J (smug), V (X-eyed & blushing), and Tessa standing in front of another window in the library. A bright light shines through it.

"Mm, sneaking out to make out with my boyfriend that I definitely have?"
"HA! Seriously, though."
"Okay, okay. You caught me. I need to... measure the exterior hydraulic mechanisms of door one, because that's... the project I'm working on for school?
A big old door! Just like what my old man built. Ha ha, I wanna join the WDF and hide behind doors like cowards while playing cards and stuff."
"Well, we don't just play cards."

A fellow WDF member greets the two.
"Khan, can you grab a fresh pack? We literally only play cards so much that the numbers have faded. Oh! Hey, Uzi."
"Well... when you build doors so good, there's no need to fight," Khan says. "Uzi, this is great news!"

He gives her something.
"Here--the wrench I used to tighten bolts on my first door prototypes..."

His face turns severe.
"...AND TO PUT YOUR MOTHER OUT OF HER MISERY WHEN THE MURDER DRONES GOT TO HER WITH THEIR NANITE ACID."

Uzi takes it, now even more put off.

Various sources have posted five preview pages from the first issue of Oni Press's Murder Drones today. I have reposted four of them below - the last one is in the replies. (These specifically come from an official Reddit post, as they were the highest quality of them all.) #MurderDrones
A worker drone head displays "BOOTING UP// EXPOSITION_" as a narrator intones:
"We...

...are Worker Drones, autonomous robots helping humans mine exoplanets for our interstellar parent company, JC Jenson... IN SPAAAAACEE!!!!"

As a line of drones carry minerals off-panel, someone in a protective suit kicks a holdout.
"Yeah, we were mistreated in the name of Windex, but it's not like we revolted and killed all humans or anything."
While observing the above, two other people notice a screen reading "!!WARNING!! PLANET CORE COLLAPSE."
"Mostly because they handled that just fine all by themselves.

With biological life wiped from the planet, we found it pretty easy to pick up where they left off."
Two workers toss a human skull as though it were a football. In the background, a mother and a father proudly watch alongside their baby.
"We finally had a future... all to ourselves."

The family looks up in horror.
"Unfortunately... our parent company didn't exactly love the concept of runaway AI."A full-page illustration of three Disassembly Drones blowing things up and generally massacring the workers. Two fly overhead: one holding a decapitated head in one hand and turning the other into a gun, while the second has her claws out and has turned her other hand into a sword. The third appears to be perched on top of a missile. All three have an X instead of eyes and bear a malevolent smile. We're out of the flashback, outside a room where our narrator speaks.
"But what have our parents done for the past forever while those things build a spire of corpses?! Hide under the ice behind three stupid doors? It's like we're waiting for an inciting incident."

Finally appearing in person, Uzi (a purple-haired worker drone with a black beanie & hoodie) brandishes a large, futuristic firearm that glows green.
"Anyway, that's why my project is... this sick-as-hell RAILGUN!"

Her classmates are unilaterally concerned by this. One remarks "That's SO not the vibe!"

"Easy, morons," she replies. "It doesn't work. YET. It doesn't work yet! WHo said it doesn't work?! Maybe it does!"
Her teacher sighs. "Uzi, the homework was a word problem about buying watermelons."
"Oh, and this magnetically amplified photon converter doesn't count?"
"No. Plus, repressed emotional baggage was only worth two points on the rubric. And is it supposed to be that color?"

Only now does Uzi notice the gun is sparking and glowing far too brightly.
"HUH?"

A massive green explosion blows open the door, two bystanders shielding themselves outside.Uzi sits outside the nurse's office, bandaged and holding an ice pack to her face. She looks dispirited.
A pink-eyed drone gossips "Eww, it didn't kill her?" to her friend.

As she leaves, a jock-looking drone enters, pointing at someone off-panel: "Ha ha! Classic toxic masculinity, Chad! That's never gonna end up problematic!
Oh wow--Uzi? I-I head you, uh--"

"I'm an angsty teen, Thad. Bite me. Also, how do you know my name? People willingly talk to you."
"Well, I'd say everyone knows Khan Doorman's daughter, but, uh... then you might blow the other half of your face off."

Thad sits down near Uzi. A placard bearing Khan's face (with the text "KHAN DOORMAN on DEALING WITH YOUR DISAPPO[...] OF A[...]") is visible behind them.
"Crippling daddy issues. Hilarious. What are you in for? Testosterone too hard?"
"That can happen?! Awesome. Hey, those bandages look pretty badass."
Uzi blushes. "Oh. E-Ew, gross. I hate that you said that."
"So, what's the, uh..."

Uzi gets up and points her weapon at Thad.
"Sick-as-hell railgun? Sci-fi nonsense that super works. I'm sneaking to the murder drone lair tonight to get the last spare part I need to save the world with and earn my dad's respect and stuff--uh, but mostly the world part."
"Oh--but doesn't your dad make awesome doors so we don't have to, uh... do that scary-sounding, emotionally repressed stuff you just said?"

Uzi moves the gun much closer to his face. It whirrs softly.
"No more feedback on my repression today!"
"OW! I'm sorry. I--"

She stands down and starts to leave, but not before saying:
"BITE ME!
I'm not mad at you, by the way--just generally hormonal!"

Here's the original source (which also provided the brief plot synopsis below): geekvibesnation.com/murder-drone... Oni's Reddit account also posted these, with their description helpfully explaining the exact nature of the variant covers: reddit.com/r/MurderDron...
Text transcript:
"Where might a worker drone go to get away from it all? A wilderness getaway on the uninhabitable surface of Copper-9, complete with murderous councilors, hurricane force winds, and other 'distractions'! As Uzi and her classmates set up camp in this little slice of paradise, the unseen force which has been systematically killing and eating the drone population makes short work of the other campers, and as Uzi discovers, the killer is much closer than she realized!" Meant to post this earlier, but also worth noting: the comic's writer has stated in a couple different interviews that Glitch wanted a faithful adaptation in the hopes of making new fans out of the comics crowd (and potentially opening the door for new material later on).
Excerpt from an AIPT interview with Wyatt Kennedy (https://aiptcomics.com/2025/09/08/murder-drones-kickstarter-qa). Transcript:
"AIPT: Do you want this book/story to be a continuation of the series or an add-on instead? Does that distinction even matter?
WK: I’d asked Glitch initially if they wanted this to be either of those, but they were very clear in wanting this to be the intro of Murder Drones to a larger comic reading audience with a straight-forward adaptation that hopefully could open the door for continuations with either these characters or the overall world."Excerpt from a Comic Book Club Live interview with Wyatt Kennedy (https://comicbookclublive.com/2025/09/08/wyatt-kennedy-murder-drones-interview). Transcript:
"[Interviewer:] Given the graphic novel is supposed to launch a series of comics and books, how much was set up for the new line, versus a straight adaptation?

[Wyatt Kennedy:] I’d asked Glitch if they’d wanted any kind of expansion or deviation from the original source material, but they seemed very intent on using this first graphic novel as a way to get their fans onboard as well as attract a new comic reading audience and hopefully expand and do different kind of stories set in the universe later down the line, so I hope that’ll be exciting for whoever might get attached."

Just pushed an update that brings Sonic Heardle to volume 4! There aren't a lot of songs in the database currently, but I will be adding more in the coming weeks. (Sorry if this is kind of abrupt - it kind of snuck up on me, too.) Please let me know if there are any issues!

Finally, he mentions his favorite moment in the comic is somewhere in its final issue and gives some closing words for the AIPT interview.
AIPT: Do you have a favorite moment and or page/panel, maybe one that speaks to the larger story or your own creative goals?

WK: I do, something in the final issue, but I’d rather let people speculate before I answer. Haha!

AIPT: Is there anything else we should know about Murder Drones, comics, robots, animation, etc.?

WK: Watch Murder Drones on YouTube, support your local comic shop, reject AI, and buy animation physical media; streaming services don’t care about the art form and we need to preserve and share its importance.

That said, Kennedy hasn't talked to Liam Vickers, the series' original creator - he's got other contacts at Glitch instead.
AIPT: I assume you’ve had convos/interactions with writer/director Liam Vickers. How much insight or guidance did they offer (if at all)?

WK: I actually haven’t spoken with Liam, just a small handful of people at Glitch, all of which were super kind and specific in their vision. I certainly hope Liam’s happy with the final result!

The reason Glitch had him stick so close to the script: they want to attract both new and existing fans with this comic, hopefully leading to further installments in the same setting (if not the same characters).
AIPT: Do you want this book/story to be a continuation of the series or an add-on instead? Does that distinction even matter?

WK: I’d asked Glitch initially if they wanted this to be either of those, but they were very clear in wanting this to be the intro of Murder Drones to a larger comic reading audience with a straight-forward adaptation that hopefully could open the door for continuations with either these characters or the overall world.[Comic Book Club:] Given the graphic novel is supposed to launch a series of comics and books, how much was set up for the new line, versus a straight adaptation?

Both times, Kennedy explains that Glitch wanted the comic to be a very faithful adaptation of the show, so he focused his efforts on squeezing the story into a relatively small amount of pages (20 per issue, or 136 in total).
AIPT: How familiar were you with Murder Drones before starting on this book? What do you think the appeal of that show is for so many?

Wyatt Kennedy: I was moderately aware of it because I knew about Glitch because of their other shows and my friends in the animation industry. I think it’s no different than how something like Invader Zim or The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy was successful. People, but especially kids, really like gothic stories and sardonic humor.

AIPT: How do you approach the act of adapting an animated show – what do you keep or throw away, and how do you go about adding without harming the existing property?

WK: For this, given I was only granted 20 pages per issue; it’s really about widening the frame for the more dense dialogue scenes and closing up on comedic bits. I think my job really was to as clearly and efficiently translate this for Jo so that her art can really shine. Glitch was very specific about staying on-book as it were, so as far as adding or subtracting, I’d say it’s 99.9999% accurate to the show.[Comic Book Club:] What was your process in adapting the series? They’ve clearly got a ton of material, but I assume it was more complicated than slapping their storyboards on a page and calling it a day.

[Wyatt Kennedy:] I mean, yes and no? Haha! Glitch was very specific in being as close to the original show in terms of dialogue and structure, so as far as describing visuals for Jo, I just did my best and finding the most economic paneling (especially since Murder Drones has a lot of complicated set pieces) but I did have two monitors in front of me while I was working, one that had the show playing and the other being my Pages document. It was very technical in a lot of ways.

#Klonoa fact: the Famitsu guidebook for Door to Phantomile includes some Moo concept art containing handwritten notes (presumably from the artist). One of these compares their role in the story to the Shocker Combatmen from Kamen Rider.
A piece of concept art for Klonoa: Door to Phantomile depicting a Moo standing around thoughtlessly. Below it is the following text:
"敵側の一般兵隊
ショッカーの戦斗員のよーなものです。"

I have attempted to translate it into English. It (roughly) reads:
"The villains' rank and file soldiers.
Similar to the Shocker Combatmen."Screenshot from an episode of the original Kamen Rider series showing three Shocker Combatment on a bridge.
