Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/04/2026Slight correction on the fallout question from this episode, Not every Fallout game opens with "War. War Never Changes." The popular management sim Fallout Shelter does not feature the V.O. in it's opening at all. 110
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 17/03/2026I was thinking about your comments and wanted to share the planeswalkers guide to Mysteries of Strixhaven. I know the general flavor might not be for you, but I think they did a great job with the world in this set of you wanna give it another chance. magic.wizards.com/en/news/magi...magic.wizards.comPlaneswalker's Guide to Secrets of StrixhavenYou've been admitted to Strixhaven University! Prepare for the start of classes and the release of Secrets of Strixhaven on April 24, 2026. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026I get that the flavor isn't for you. It just feels kind of like you're being reductive and mean towards the setting and the people who do enjoy it. If I need to be accepting of UB and the players who like it, we could be less shitty towards UW settings. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026I agree that you could do it other ways. My point is that being able to "do it other ways" applies to most story points in general. It's not a unique argument. The identity expansion of two color groups could have been done anywhere, it didn't need to be in a 'guild city.' 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026Fair enough. Just seems you're generally being unfair towards Strixhaven, but it's all just opinions. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026Genuinely, what settings do you think had an equal impact to something equivalent to the expansion of RW themes that includes a stronger setting? Because "history matters" being attached to a literal school heavily focused on archeology seems pretty well designed. 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026Sorry, the use of "in spite of" tends to be to contrast a beneficial trait against something that should have made that beneficial trait difficult to achieve. I just didn't see that with Lorehold. 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026If we're just talking about flavor and not even story attached to it ... Ravnica is the gimmick two-color plane about a big city. The flavor with no consideration for story is... Pretty flat 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026This also isn't really how existing "in spite" of something works. The school back drop didn't literally retract from explaining lorehold's identity. 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026That seems very reductive about lorehold and a general argument that could have been applied to literally any magic story. 110
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026OTJ and Duskmourn are genuinely excellent sets in the draft, even if I didn't care for their story. Strixhaven was also incredibly fun. As a player who has played since 7th edition, Strixhaven is one of my favorite sets. 110
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 01/03/2026How do you figure? The exploration and expansion of Boros was pretty explicitly tied to the identity of lorehold. 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 28/02/2026OG Strixhaven had genuinely very interesting character developments for some prominent planeswalkers. The in D&D supplement books actually gave some very interesting and kinda dark lore to the plane. Arcavios is definitely interesting. A shame some here will only see it as a hat set. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 14/11/2025Just had a wild night watching the chaos that is @twentysidedtavern.bsky.social in KC with @aabria.bsky.social! All I've learned is No Cast November is really more a state of mind. 041
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025If that's what you need for your own mental health, then you do you. It's normal to dislike something about the game and to feel free to talk about it, though. Most people I see who take issue with UB have a lot they love about the game, which is why the one issue stings. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025And as someone who is disillusioned with the game, but does love it immensely, this argument really doesn't work for someone like me. I guess you can add that to your anecdotes. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025There are people that are determined to be mad at WOTC, that's for sure. But those same people need to be pulled back from directing that anger at people who like what WotC is doing. I'm still interested in doing that to make the mtg community better. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025I've seen the argument before and I've seen more people pushed away by it. If you want to call me a pedant, then okay. I don't care if you think I'm being pedantic. To me it matters, sorry if it mattering to me is frustrating or something. 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025Not yelling at you on the other side of this or anything* Voice to text likes to cut at really weird points. 010
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025Intention is hard through text. I am chill. I'm not on the other side of this. Trying to yell at you or anything. I already responded about it in another comment to you because blue sky is a little weird and I thought that was the response to this. I understood you as discussing a disagreement. 110
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025That's fine. Look back at what I said. Referencing a change of one word is me saying that's a signpost that the intention of the story might be different. Add in all the discussion of transmutation, alchemy and Gaia... And it becomes clear this is not intended as sci-fi. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025I don't actually disagree with this. My point was more that the argument being made does not look good and does not play good to people who disagree with you. If it does, neither of those things, we shouldn't rely on it when talking about the current state of magic. 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025But making the argument to people who may disagree with you that the current state of magic is what Garfield intended or is close to what Garfield wanted, looks incredibly disingenuous. It is what makes people who disagree with you dig in rather than see your side. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025Garfield was pretty clear that he meant for for Arabian nights to be a part of Magic's world. If we take Garfield as the arbiter of what is true magic then it was intended. A lot of wizards work is built or based on external IP. It's when that is integrated into the world that it's all right. 010
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025That wasn't my full argument, but cool straw man. It's not cool to make fun of people who like universes beyond. We do not need to rely on arguments that are specious like this one to make that point. Because for anyone on the other side, this argument looks disingenuous. 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025It directly means that it isn't IP. Intellectual property is the term, my man. Public domain works are no longer property. You are just categorically wrong on this. 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025And AN still wasn't an IP at that point, it was public domain and usable by all. A very small team utilizing public domain folklore is not comparable to a huge team directly utilizing another IP 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025Notice how you had to identify them as 'artificers' and not 'engineers?' it's because this is fantasy, not sci-fi. There's whole cards giving reference to things like alchemy, Gaea, etc. It's but a sci-fi set. it's not chill to be mean to people who like UB, but let's not bullshit ourselves. 300
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025>"it isn't based on folklore >"Puts a specific book of folklore directly onto cards" Pick one, you can't have both. Specifically, your original statement is just factually wrong, because AN wasn't an IP when the set came out because it was no one's property any more than the concept of "dragon." 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025I mean, it is a hat set. Did the original Ravnica set need to borrow a bunch of Clue references to tell the story of a detective in this complex guild focused society? No. It spent way more time expanding the different guilds themselves and building the world. 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 27/08/2025Probably because it's a really bad oversimplification. Rabiah is based on folklore, not an "external IP." The "sci-fi war" just isn't sci-fi (it's high fantasy magic powering machines, a trope that's existed for ages). 110
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 14/01/2025I get what you're saying, why do you not get what I'm saying? 000
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 06/01/2025A loss is a loss, homie. What did the game do for his team? This is a team game, after all. 100
Watsa @watsabeholder.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Josh Allen lost to 2024 patriots. The right move was to let a QB that's been fighting an injury, and a fairly injured starting lineup, rest for the week. They've already secured the bye, playing them would literally be stupid (That's what playing Josh Allen for that garbage performance was, btw) 100
