The Importance of Physical Media

YouTube video by Watersurf

Joshua Moran @watersurf.bsky.social · 28/08/2026

Last month, playstation pissed me off and I started slowly chipping away at a video essay on why all physical media is important, not just video games. So in this here video essay, I talked about the options we have as consumers and why physical media is important to me. Here are the thumbnails.

This sums up everything post RCT3. RCT3D was awful. RCTW was terrible. And uhhh, we don't talk about the other ones.

This video also more or less got me up to 2.3K watch hours so now I only need to get 1.7K to meet my goal of 4K before "deadline" of February first due to the YTPP policy changes. I think it's doable but we'll see how the next few months (and videos) play out and do with the YT algorithm "gods."

I am honestly blown away that this video did so well despite me throwing it together last minute. Within almost 3 days of just posting it, it's already my 7th most viewed video on the channel. I don't think it will pass any in the top 6, it is cool to see for sure. Thanks everyone for watching!

While most gamers knew this was coming, it still does sting a little. My best assumption is that the PS6 will most likely be a digital only console with no disc drive whatsoever. Regardless, massive L for physical gamers such as myself. :(

What I bought it for in 2022 vs now

Joshua Moran @watersurf.bsky.social · 23/06/2026

Digital rentals always have been stupid. You might as well just "buy" it digitally at that point since it's only $5 more most of the time. It's why I try to go physical with movies when I can because I can always sell it later on eBay if I didn't like it. (or the other options, IYNYK)

I do not have an ETA for this film as it's a VERY big project. In the meantime, my gaming hour episodes will be a tad shorter while I put most of my effort into this project. I wanted to do this after I finished my Xenoblade gaming hour episode so that's what I'm going to do now.
