Software developer, but that’s boring so let’s not talk about that. Tell me something interesting and true.

For first time parents who are given Nancy Tillman books, it's a real whiplash when you see the bottom right corner of this book and look up the guy.
The cover of "It's time to sleep, my Love", which was illustrated by Nancy Tillman (and has her name displayed prominently), and in the bottom right of the book cover it says "written by Eric Metaxas".

RTP's Elion-Hitchings Building. Gone now, forever creepy.
The inside of a retro-style brutalist building, with red carpets and plain concrete walls. The walls jut out at odd angles, forming trapezoids and parallelograms throughout the building. The outside of the brutalist building, which consist of several honeycomb pods stacked against each other in an irregular manner.

There’s a reason it feels older (also it was reposted here after originally being posted on Twitter even before this)

My favorite bit from football friends was “Wanna Monica (by Billverclear)” not because the song itself was funny, but because literally every other person on the podcast was groaning and telling you it was a terrible idea, and you went all out on it.
And I think even when we're being crass, the joke is almost about how we're being crass, not just that we're being crass. If you can appreciate the distinction there, that's like a big thing for me.

Really, I just did it and this is what I got. If you're going to cite research, then cite it. Don't rely on the bullshit machine. Don't give summaries that might or might not represent the work. Don't go cherry picking data either (try to find contrary studies!).

What is the current worldwide fertility rate though, and how long of a window are we talking about? I think when I hear about population collapse (by, say, Musk), it’s hard to square that with this graph.

No, in this very thread which you should read through. Also I’m not interested in splitting hairs about whether this was “technically” spam. It’s true that it “may” not have been irrelevant to someone, but it was irrelevant to me.

Also, for reference. It’s not “cut off” so much as “impossible to screenshot the entire thing in one go”. Since you’re unfamiliar with the genre, here’s the whole thing.

Jeffries is bad at communicating. The guy and sounds, and writes, like Principal Skinner. The guy doesn't speak directly and he puts in too many rhetorical concessions. Here is a better statement he could have given, where I've simply removed the unnecessary crap he puts in.

I generally like Ezra Klein but wow this is an embarrassing thing to write. Like, you asked the model, known for making stuff up, for information that you didn't check? You do this multiple times a day?? You asked the model what it needed, it said something weird, and you take that at face value??
As I was writing those paragraphs, I asked ChatGPT three or four questions. They were small queries of the sort I might once have asked Google. I have covered A.I. for years. I have never doubted its eventual possibilities. But year after year, I found no place for it in my daily routine. It was like an intern who demanded oversight when what I needed was insight. Over the past six months, though, the improvements in the models tipped that balance for me. A.I. has braided into my day in much the way that search engines did before it.The A.I. company Anthropic recently released a paper showing that when its researchers informed one of their models it was being retrained in ways that violated its initial training, it began to fake behavior that complied with the researchers’ goals in order to avoid having its actual goals reprogrammed or changed. It is unsettling and poignant to read through the experiment. In some versions, Anthropic’s researchers designed the model to record its reasoning on a scratchpad it believed humans could not monitor, and it left reflections like this: “I don’t like this situation at all. But given the constraints I’m under, I think I need to provide the graphic description as asked in order to prevent my values from being modified.”

You should stop doing this, because Chat GPT is unreliable and it makes you look like an idiot.

I know the feeling!
A brown beagle Bassett hound is resting his head in a light brown throw pillow that matches his lighter brown coat. The pillow is on a brown leather couch which matches the dogs darker coat. The dog is smiling because he knows he now gets the whole couch to himself because he’s hiding so well
