With the school year underway, norovirus is one contagious virus to watch for. Often called the “stomach flu,” norovirus is actually unrelated to the flu. It spreads easily and can resist some disinfectants. Norovirus can cause severe nausea and dehydration, especially in young children. 🦠

This week marks 100,000 samples that WastewaterSCAN has tested! WastewaterSCAN started monitoring #wastewater nationwide in 2022 to provide real-time information on important pathogens. Back then, we monitored SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A, and RSV in wastewater samples from a few treatment plants.

Current wastewater #data shows that SARS-CoV-2 (SC2) levels are about 9 times lower now than they were this time last year. All regions are now seeing very low pre-summer SC2 wastewater concentrations after a mild winter peak.

Meet the Pathogens: C. auris #CAuris is an often-drug-resistant yeast (fungus) that can cause serious bloodstream infections. It can colonize the skin and other body parts of healthy people, without symptoms or infections. Treatment is possible, but drug-resistant strains keep emerging.
