Does the Premier League Suck?
Manchester City are the villains, but does the problem run deeper?

How many 70 year old men driving pick up trucks are killing pedestrians? I have heard about 2 instances in the last week in southern Ontario alone.

How is that AWB handball not a pen? He literally blocks the path of the ball, which is going towards the net, with his arm, which is very much outstretched. #coys

The comms are waxing poetic about fouls that "are just below the threshold of a yellow" as opposed to all the fouls on Spurs that are mounting up without any deterrent. #coys #totavl

Bentancur is actually phenomenal rn so what's the likelihood of a season-long injury by mid-October? I like him and Tonali together, but it's hard to see how Fernandes fits in all this because while we look really solid in the middle I don't think poor Dom touched the ball once. #coys

The comms after this match is infuriating - it's the same result and yet Everton is luminous and Spurs are a disaster, even tho Spurs were the better team. I thought Spurs played well, if they showed the endeavour of Bergvall and Madders across the whole match we'd have more to show for it. #coys

Everton seemingly were playing for a draw, played very well on defense with Garner and Mykolenko being standouts and credit to them as they didn't constantly foul us like in our first 3 games, so we got to actually see how Spurs can play. #coys #toteve

The crowd is absolutely brutal in these moments. Around the 54 minute mark we are just not helping things with how we react to every little mistake on the pitch. Of course these players are going to a bit more reserved, they have 60,000 people losing it over a missed pass. #coys

It is absolutely wild that the commentary after the first half were very complementary towards Everton, who were barely in the game, and very condescending towards Tottenham, who were very good across 45 minutes. #coys #toteve

The glazing by the comms for 1-nil down Arsenal is remarkable. "Never have such a mighty and formidable and good looking squad been down so early in the match. How can they ascend to another level of magnificence with 87 minutes left in the game?" Conor McNamara 🤌

Wait, what was he kicking for if not to kick the goalie in the head? The ball was nowhere near his foot. How is that not a red? #arsche

My most significant tottenham prediction for this season is that Mudryk will drive Madders crazy with his better hair and worse tattoos and by December Madders will be blonde and have a Eastern European accent. #coys

While Kudus made that terrible throw I think he is what we were missing from the game. He was really driving to get us forward and didn't actually overcook his crosses. One of the most promising parts of the game, and we missed that drive from our #10 role (which we don't really have atm). #coys

Most of the team were fine today, id say Tonali (minus the goal clearing business), Bentancur, JVH, VDV, Marmoush were good, Savio, Tel, Udogie were ok, and Porro and Gallagher were bad. Porro will probably slip criticism but he gave the ball away so many times, which is reverting to type. #coys

I thought we'd lose this one but wasn't aware of how bad Forest are right now. Shockingly, when you get rid of all your goal scorers you don't score goals. #coys #nfotot

Imo Porro has been pretty bad for the last 2 years, save about 4 months from April to July. My most optimistic take is he needs a back up, my most pessimistic take is we need an upgrade, and Archie Grey is not suitable for either. We could have had Munoz for less that we got for Spence ffs. #coys

Getting bullied by Charlton's b team is very concerning. We didn't hit back at them at all and the only one with a bit of bite was Bentancur. Teams will continue to knock us around and refs won't call it because we'll be associated with falling over too much. #coys

We cannot go into this season with no competition at RB. Porros legs will fall off again by new years. Grey is too slow and too passive. He can't be getting beat by Charleton players and if you can't pass forward against the bench from a lower league team, you can't do it at all. #coys

Oh God this commentary after the game - RDZ scratching his head trying to figure out what to do? He started Archie Grey at RB and Mikey Moore at RW, I don't think it's a head scratcher to think it'll get better with Porro and Kudus back. They're really all against us. #coys

Brentford are a fun team to watch, very competent and well set up. Thiago is a handful for anybody, Schade is particularly impressive, and theyll pick up points like crazy as other teams still try to figure themselves out in the first few months of the season. #bretot

I didn't expect much out of this, a ruthless team does us in because we are soft and Brentford are up for the task. We fight for nothing, they win every ball and we just watch. Credit to them, it's def coming off as a well oiled machine vs a blender with its top off. #coys

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

Ahead of an apocalyptic wildfire season, Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government made CUTS to the very teams who help prevent the worst outcomes: experts who map wildfires and issue warnings and risk assessments that communities rely on. The union representing these workers sent me the details:

My hope is that when Canadians realize the Carney betrayal and the inevitable crash of Liberal support happens, that the spite vote goes to the NDP instead of the Cons. The NDP is the true rejection of this government whereas the Cons are Diet Libs at this point. #canpoli

Q: Why am I still smelling wildfire smoke when I wear an N95 respirator mask? A: The smoke's gas and chemical molecules that you smell are much smaller than the harmful PM2.5 particulate matter the N95 filters out. You will also have <100% seal around a mask.

What the Carneys of the world ignore is even the business case for slashing environmental protections doesn’t work. I work for a small business. We won’t get foot traffic until the smoke clears. No one will buy a coffee, sit on the patio, anything. This hurts business, it’s bad for the economy.

Reminder that Carney has cut funding for Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Indigenous and Northern Affairs, and Indigenous Services. And he has rolled back climate protections, abandoned emissions targets, and is building more pipelines.
Carney:

"The wildfire situation has escalated significantly over the last three weeks across the country, and particularly in Northwestern Ontario.

Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their communities, not knowing if their homes will survive.

On behalf of Canadians, I want to thank the brave firefighters, first responders, Indigenous and local leaders who are working tirelessly to keep people safe.

Our government is in close contact with provincial, municipal, and Indigenous partners and stands ready to provide any additional support as needed."

Lots of shots on the sky but a friendly reminder that smoke is everywhere including the ground. On the AQHI scale out of 10 we are at an 11. For those in condos, seal your doors with wet towels if you can and wear n95s inside at the very least. #onsmoke

The narrative out of Tottenham appears to be "leadership" and "experience". In January and last summer it was about players' "ceiling". Obviously the current narrative is in correction of the last one. The problem with this is, the narrative should always be "improvement". #coys
