I do try to keep the cat alive. I do like Oxo. Specialty beverages? I did learn a year or so ago that all of my years of not liking and not drinking water was because I only like alkaline water. What does that mean, physiologically? Is it a preference or am I lacking something? I don’t know.

I don’t know what I’m looking at, really, but the handyman said the wires were scorched and the fixture needed to be replaced (water came through it, which is why I had him check). Which light do you think I should get? I’m short and need easy-to-access bulbs, so they’re all open, no glass bowl etc

This little guy is an invasive species from Australia. I know because last summer he landed on me while I was playing soccer and after I recovered, I looked him up. They like eucalyptus. I tried to report him to the ag/pest people, but they said we were already overrun, it's too late.

I'm not sure what's going on, I assume it's some sort of sand erosion mitigation effort, but in this section bulldozers have removed sand and a big pipe is spewing (what I hope is) muddy water into the ocean. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was up in Oceanside today, lunch at Tanner's Prime Burgers and gelato at An's Gate D5 afterward. (At the Top Gun House, where the Kelly McGillis character lived.) It was 101° at the beach, which is absolutely bonkers. Still beautiful, however. They've been working hard to rehab O'side. Looks good.

My brother lives in the house we grew up in, and he's renovating. The bathroom we shared was painted white a couple decades ago, probably late 80s (I can't remember), but when the construction guys took down the cabinet above the toilet, our old wallpaper was there in pristine condition.

Two complaints I have about going grocery shopping: Seems like almost every drink is an energy drink, and sometimes the energy aspect (caffeine) is hard to spot! Energy drinks are like online gambling, proliferation-wise… and probably damage-wise. Second: the fucking seed oil movement. It’s insane.

Historically, Sicilian families followed a naming pattern: first son and daughter named for dad’s parents, second son and daughter for mom’s parents. If a namesake dies (common), the next one of that gender gets the name. It’s pretty consistent! But this one family really seems to have gone wild:

After the war, my grandfather’s relatives complained about supply shortages, lack of fabric, etc, so my grandfather sent a bunch of fabric. They complained the fabrics were too dark. I don’t think he sent anything again lol I went to the cemetery. There’s like nine surnames in the whole town.

Relatives of my grandfather, also from Mazzarra Sant’Andrea, were poulterers in the early 1900s. They had a bunch of live chicken markets that were very popular in NYC for about a century. The chicken magnate, Giuseppe Livoti, paid for the campanile to be restored, so he got a plaque on the tower.
