I SO want the Democrats to push back on that, especially MAGA's position that funding endless war and a "secret" police force is easily manageable, yet feeding and housing our own citizens is a bridge too far.

Winning the election is one thing, dismantling the systems that allowed this catastrophe to occur, and building robust protections against a recurrence, would be a generational project. I am ... skeptical ... that the population has the stamina for it, and that our oligarchs would allow it.

Back in 2017, Chris Hays said that it wasn't clear to him if trump and Russia were in the same boat, or in 2 different boats rowing to the same destination. trump probably thinks "2 boats" when he's really just playing with his bathtub toy on Putin's boat. One set of matryoyshka boats.

Everything we don't like TODAY is socialism. If we like it tomorrow, it was never even in the same time zone as socialism, let alone the same neighborhood.

Ike's signature accomplishment IMO was the creation of the interstate highway system. It revolutionized how goods and people moved around the country.

I'm not nobody and my position is that Biden was the most progressive president since FDR, and Obama was basically a liberal Republican like Ike.

Indeed. You remind me of this exchange: Voter: All thinking people support you! Adlai Stevenson: Yes, but I need a majority!

Did Congress direct this expenditure? Or is he just stealing money - yet again - for a vanity project? Or more likely, a vanity announcement that will never come to fruition but generate good enough press at the margins.

In for-profit institutions that will be built by companies that probably don't even exist today but will be awarded multibillion dollar federal contracts next week. I'm waiting until homelessness becomes a criminal, not civil, offense. Then they can be enslaved - as permitted by the 13th Amendment.

Last time I remember sales of gas-guzzling vehicles falling off a cliff was 1973. Gas prices went up 40%, from 39 cents/gallon to 54!

Harry Reid supposedly said "I can always count on her for a vote I don't need." Meaning if Republicans are going to lose the vote no matter how she votes, she'll vote against her party.

It's not a sale, it's a gift. A GIFT. A sale means Israel sends $2.8B to the US and we send them bombs. The $2.8B is actually US taxpayer money, previously approved as foreign military assistance, that is going to Israel in the form of ready-to-use bombs. The cost to Israel is $0.

The media, mysteriously, agree with the handful of oligarchs who actually own >90% of it, and who steer MAGA in their preferred direction. I'm shocked, shocked.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect. -Frank Wilhoit

Who says they want everyone who's eligible to cast a vote? All that "we don't want illegals voting" is just dog whistling. They want their base to think illegal > ineligible > Democrat. They only want people to vote for MAGA. And depressing MAGA 10% is worth it if they can depress Democrats 20%

That's actually the MAGA, and earlier, Republican playbook. There's always money to force people to behave "properly" (and punish them when they don't), never enough to leave them alone while making their lives better or easier.

It certainly won't happen because Congress suddenly comes to its senses, and the zillionaires mysteriously fail to stick their thumbs on the scales. It'll take an overwhelming outpouring of demands to Democratic (and MAGA!) Senators. Make your voice heard!

Ah, the paradox of tolerance. Here's what he's missing: it's not a moral imperative, it's a social contract. If you don't abide by the terms of the contract, you're not covered by it.

IMO the Kennedy Center is gone. The building - with gilding and new signage - may remain but it's merely an empty shell: the Center itself is (was) an idea, a family - of artists who performed there, and the people who supported them. It's the difference beween a real tiger and a stuffed one.

The Soviet Union repurposed the German concentration camps when they occupied what would become East Germany. Instead of enemies of the Nazis, they got filled with enemies of communism.

And the regime continues to work diligently to ensure that we become, and REMAIN ignorant and incapable of critical thinking. And should we somehow generate an unapproved thought, that we're unable to 'petition the government for redress of grievances'

Grifters are the only ones the Epstien class will allow to run, so it's not like Republicans have a choice. They either vote for the grifter to keep "Demoncrats" out of office or they stay home and let gerrymandering do the job. They might even agree with D policies, but they'd never vote for one.

Stop with 25A, impeachment is easier. 25A step 1: a majority of the sociopaths who got their jobs from a vindictive narcissist have to vote - twice - to remove him. Step 2: not only ⅔ of the Senate, but ⅔ (not a simple majority like impeachment) of the House vote to remove him.

I didn't think there were any IGs left. Weird how one of the first things a regime that claimed to be against "waste, fraud, and abuse" did was dismiss people whose entire job was to find and prosecute it. Pretty much sent the message "if it's not nailed down (and even if it is), go for it".

It's really just the Third Way (i.e. corporate) Democrats that are freaking out. Over the last 20 years the red party and its voters have both moved way to the right, the party MUCH further than the voters. OTOH, the blue party hasn't really moved much at all, but the blue voters have moved left.

First, let's keep our eyes on the election right in front of us. A lesson from January 6 is that this election isn't over until January 3, 2027, when the new congress is sworn in. Then - because he'll still be in power - focus on being sand in the gears of fascism. Only THEN can we worry about 2028.
