'Messi' [ˈmɛsɪ] is not pronounced the same as 'messy' [ˈmɛːsɪ] for some speakers of Ulster English, myself included, due to the morpheme boundary in the latter. Likewise Bessie, Jessie, Nessie, Tessie vs. dressy, stressy.

Highlight of the day was spending 3.5 hours on the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin beside a group of young working-class lads (20s, 30s, track-suits and all) from north Wales who spoke Welsh the whole journey, other than a few snatches of English in Scouse-influenced accents...
