Weathertop is beginning to look a bit more appetising now that I've frosted it with plaster of Paris and watered down filler. Once this is properly dry it'll be time to turn it into a chocolate cake (aka, slop on the obligatory brown paint).

"Put it out, you fools! Put it out!" I've decided I'm going to make myself a Weathertop. I'm basing it off a combination of the scene from the film and various sketches - mostly so I can justify making it a bit more manageable from a size perspective! This is, of course, just the start.

Ultimately, it isn't the end result that matters but the journey.  So why would I ever want to use a machine to make art?  At Northwing we will never make or sell anything that isn't 100% human made (no AI), nor will we work with people who use AI.

I use art to express myself. Designing and painting minis is art. Sometimes art is hard, but that is what makes it so much fun and so satisfying.

I needed a palette cleanser from my studying so I've been leafing through my copy of A Tolkien Bestiary today. Plus I needed some inspiration for a miniature I am planning 🤔 If you haven't got a copy of this I can highly recommend that you do.

That's a good shout. I have to travel on a train with it and then through town including a looooong flight of stairs, so it needs to be very robust to survive me being a clod 😆

You can absolutely build it without the throne, they are completely separate. I actually painted mine without and added the throne afterwards.

I know the feeling! My advice would be to try to keep it simple. Don't worry too much about the little details, ensuring it looks cohesive as a whole from a distance is much more important. To achieve that, bold colour contrasts are useful, so it's worth doing plenty of research beforehand.

I am pretty pleased with how my new Chaos Dragon has turned out, despite a rocky start with a quarter tube of milliput being required to fix the gaps! Now I have to work out how on earth I'm going to transport this bad boy....

I've just finished off my chaos giant who will be joining my Warriors of Chaos force. I've painted its victims in the colour scheme of my mate's Empire army which I thought was amusing. Also wanted to show off the versatility of my scenic base and the Handiwork Games backdrop book.

By accident or design my new book nook has exactly the required shelf space for my Marius Mules and Macro & Cato novels (due to the presence of various pipes and a steel lintel, the top shelf is not strong enough for books). No, I haven't got around to putting them in order but I will!

Being the leader of the Rat-Kin is a hard job as there are always ungrateful underlings waiting in the shadows to stab you in the back when you least expect it! You can find the full range of all 15 minis on my website.

We played an absolutely massive game of Mordheim down at the club tonight. Huge fun was had despite the rampant chaos inherent in such a large game. And my Gnawing Tide got some tabletop time, although they quickly ran away as rats are wont to do.

I always enjoy my walk to work down through Newcastle to the quayside as the route is full of history. Top of the list, of course (at least in my books) is Admiral Collingwood looking out from the site of his birthplace.

Get it done via doxdirect, it's not too expensive and you don't even have to leave your house?

Pics from today's BFG game. It was a furious battle in the dust clouds, which left the Plaguebearer a hulk and the Rot Bringer crippled. On the flank the frigates tussled, both of us losing one. Having given the Chaos raiders a bloody nose I disengaged my fleet having suffered minimal damage.

Off into Newcastle today to play some Battlefleet Gothic, so getting myself prepared with caffeine and inspiration from the admiral himself.

You are in for a treat in that case! It was the Warhammer Fantasy Summer 2001 campaign, one of the early internet campaigns. It has a lot of background to it and featured in a load of white dwarf articles at the time.

I'm planning on porting this over to Old World and running a mini campaign at some point. Probably just do a ladder campaign and playing through each of the scenarios. Just need to work out how that would look in reality.

Just got my copy of this off eBay - I've been searching for a decently priced one for ages to fill a gap in my collection, and finally I got my greasy mittens on a copy. I absolutely love this era of GW, partly for the nostalgia but also because the love the writers had for the game is so evident.

My cat, Avery, tried her hand at being a diplomat today in a desperate attempt to stop the fighting. Needless to say she failed miserably.

I love kit-bashing, but it's been a while since I've done a full project from the ground up. So, as I needed a space station for Battlefleet Gothic I decided take the opportunity to raid the bits box and have a go at making one. If you don't look too closely I reckon it's not too bad looking.

I've had a cracking start to the bank holiday weekend playing two games of Old World against my mate. I didn't get many photos as we were too busy enjoying rolling dice, but here is one from the start of game two.

I've just finished painting up the Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount from the new Old World starter box. I am really impressed with the sculpting of this, it's a superb model. Obviously, I then had to play around with some backdrops.

Just finished my regiment of marauders ready for their inaugural game on Saturday. I've still got to finish some knights & my leader, but they will hopefully be finished tomorrow. These are lovely minis, but for rank and file units like this I think I did the right thing deciding to drybrush them.

I am very happy with my latest addition to my Warriors of Chaos army. I absolutely love how dorky these old metal minis are, they are filled to the brim with character!

With that said, as much as the models are simple to assemble, the sprue design is not very friendly. It would be nice if they were easier to navigate. Again, not a problem for the more experienced, but if you were brand new to the hobby you'd potentially be a bit flummoxed.

This may be controversial, but this could be among the best starter boxes GW has ever done. Immaculate presentation, instructions in a proper booklet, there's a playmat (not useful to me but good for a beginner) and full rules for both armies, both of which are actually playable and fairly decent.

Another blood donation completed. Personally I think it's a great exchange - I lose circa 600 calories AND get a biscuit (a bourbon of course), in exchange for some replaceable blood. Win win. Please donate if you feel able!

I may be able to help you there. There's a great resource here with all the rules and copies of tokens here portinvicta.weebly.com/general-hobb... and Scourge Scenics do some very nice proxy models which are very close to the originals (without being actual literal copies).

I've just finished off my first unit of the new Chaos Marauder horsemen. They are very detailed, and that was a bit scary to begin with, but I think I worked out an approach to painting them that I'm happy with AND doesn't require ages to get finished.
