On 29 June we are launching our report ‘The Price of Power’. We surveyed politicians about the staggering amounts of money they spend on election campaigns, and we identify ways to reduce these harmful costs. The panel discussion (in Indonesian…) in Jakarta can be joined via zoom!

Yesterday it came in in the mail: our book Rightless Resistance is out! The book is about the struggles of rural Indonesians against palm oil companies. We wrote it after documenting 150 such conflicts across Indonesia. Good news: the book is open access, via uplopen.com/books/m/10.1...

Simply brilliant. Bansky depicting the absurdity of how the justice system in the UK (and elsewhere) treats those protesting against the genocide.

I love this about Indonesia’s democracy: while elsewhere vote counting is behind doors, in Ind it is a collective affair, with all present shouting ‘sah!’ if a vote can be counted.

I wrote this opinion piece in Kompas about the need for electoral reform in Indonesia. The campaigns for the upcoming local elections (27 nov) are too expensive and marred by enthousiastic vote buying. The damage is too big to ignore.
Direct elections need to be reformed
