Arizona political mailers rock. "Why is Biggs dangerous for Arizona?" Well, he would raise prices. And also he's a giant pedo-protector.

We don't often get to talk about cool shit done by good people. So I think I'll share a story from last month. Where I got the lucky chance to help some very cool people do their jobs.

Rep. Marcy Kaptur, an Ohio Democrat whose past record was generally supportive of LGBTQ people, referred to “transgender ideology” and keeping “boys out of girl’s sports” in an ad. The state’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Amy Acton, said in a statement that she opposed “boys playing in girls’ sports” and then her campaign set off several negative news cycles with its adversarial stance to queer people who were taken aback by her calling trans girls “boys.”

“A, it’s disrespectful, which is the most important part,” Erickson said. “And B, I don’t think it’s helpful to the political cause. A lot of the research we’ve done has shown as much – that repeating that language makes voters picture something that’s not helpful.”

She added: “Some candidates are repeating the language of the attack, which is not helpful on a policy ground or a political ground, but there are others who have more nuanced responses, and I’m hoping that some of those folks are going to win their races, and then we can show examples of how you can respond to these attacks in a way that combats them politically, but also does not give ground in the important policy context.”

Also, why is everyone's least favorite Canadian YouTuber here?

Liron Shapira’s podcast, “Doom Debates”, did an interview with Aella and Ronny Fernandez at the conclusion of pdku to talk about the event. This interview confirms that JJ McCullough and Jeffrey Ladish provided mentorship separately from the official schedule. Yudkowsky, Soares, and Ladish, all involved in this event, are the three out of four of Bernie’s advisors on AI risk who aren’t already directors of the company that manages Lighthaven.

So on the left are the rates from 1972, when FRED starts having data, to 1982. On the right is the past decade. Yes. There are different y-axes. That's fine, this is about expectations and experience not actual level.

Also, this is probably one of my favorite Goldwater statements.
On Hillary Clinton, who was an ardent Goldwater supporter in 1964: "If he'd let his wife run business, I think he'd be better off. ... I just like the way she acts. I've never met her, but I sent her a bag of chili, and she invited me to come to the White House some night and said she'd cook chili for me. Someday, maybe."

This is, by itself, insane. I'm not gonna pretend that 20-40 somethings are notably affluent. But this is just by donor, without weighting.
In the 2018 election cycle, Jeffries had one of the youngest donor bases of any House Democrat, with an average donor age of 54 and only 21 percent of his donors 65 or older. When he became caucus chair in 2019, those numbers began to shift. By the 2026 election cycle, his average donor was 73, and 86 percent were 65 or older. Jeffries didn’t change his political positions in ways that would account for this shift; it was his role in the party that changed — and his fundraising strategy.

Like, ultimately, I do not think this goal was achieved. Not through any particular fault of Dr. Hancox-Li. She made what I would understand to be a sincere good faith effort to achieve her stated aim. I just don't think it is *possible* to do.
Thus, this is not an essay about the morality or immorality of the events at Prairieland. This essay treats morality as irrelevant. It is a cynical essay, an exercise in cold-hearted strategic and tactical analysis. It asks: what did the Prairieland activists intend to achieve, and were the tactics they adopted successful to that end?

I think this analysis is useful. Because we discover a lot about ourselves and each other in dialogue. But I think the core contention comes down to this paragraph. And whether you think this is actually possible. Because the choice to abstract away morality is itself a choice based in morality.

See quoted post for details of Ken Martin's DNC's strategy. It's worth reading, if only for context. But these highlighted bits particularly stood out to me. Because they're pretty damn important. The first step in solving any problem is admitting you have one. Ken is admitting we have one.
Third, relationships are more powerful than transactions. We will not repair the Democratic brand by speaking to voters only when we need their ballots. Trust cannot be bought in October; it must be earned all year.We are also investing in listening to voters instead of just talking at them. Our Local Listeners program is a deep-canvassing program focused on Democrats in targeted congressional races who voted in 2020 but sat out in 2024. Rather than beginning with a script that tells those voters what to believe, the program begins with a conversation.

What concerns them?

Why did they stay home?

Where did the party lose their trust?

What would make them believe Democrats understand their lives? This is not an argument against paid media, polling, or late-cycle spending. Those tools have an important place in modern campaigns. It is an argument against allowing them to become the entire strategy.

A 30-second TV advertisement aired in October cannot compensate for years of political absence.

A last-minute mail program cannot rebuild trust with a community that believes it has been ignored.

A presidential campaign cannot create, in a matter of months, the local organizations, voter-registration advantage, trained political workforce, data systems, and volunteer leadership that a strong national party should have built and maintained all along.

The old model asks: How much can we save for the final weeks? Our model asks: What must we build now so that Democrats are stronger every week between now and Election Day - and stronger still after Election Day?

Also, I thought it was bad. I was wrong. This is fucking fatal.
In JULY 2022 (!!), only 26% of Democratic primary voters wanted Biden to the nominee in 2024; one third of the people who wanted a different nominee because of his age. 94% of Democrats under the age of 30 wanted someone new.
