On this date in 2001, I woke up in a 22-story hotel right between the twin towers in NY. I planned to linger till 10 a.m. But a last-minute meeting made me leave at 8:15, just 30 minutes before the first plane struck. The hotel was destroyed. I was saved. But we can never forget those who perished.

Must watch: a short but great interview with Ira Shapiro, co-editor of the new non-partisan book "Betrayed", a joint project by experts in many fields to catalog the damage caused by the Trump presidency.

I did check on Apple podcasts and you’re absolutely right. For some reason, the last few minutes are cut off. Not just the standing ovation but the last question and answer. I’m sure it’s a mistake, not something deliberate. I’ll look into it.

I think your new independent media venture is a great idea and I will be supporting you and rooting for you and subscribing as soon as it’s possible. I think anyone who cares about Tech should do the same. I know you’ll crush it.

Joanna, you did a great job of protecting and nurturing the personal technology column at the journal, which I created and wrote for 22 years. You guided it into a new era which made it into even better while protecting the mission and the principles I followed. Thank you so much.

In my long experience as a reviewer I found that almost no product was entirely great or entirely awful. Even the best ones had some drawbacks and I felt it was my job to point out the strengths and weaknesses. Nicole is doing her job and doing it well.

One key job of the media is to tell truth to power. Not just journalists, but interviewers, comedians, artists and others. Stephen Colbert did that. This cancellation is political. It’s part of Paramount’s capitulation to Trump. My appetite for CBS and Paramount+ programming is now near zero.

Today is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride from Boston. Along with others, he was dispatched to warn the patriots at Lexington and Concord that the British were coming to arrest their leaders. Today, we need millions of Paul Reveres to arouse our country to the threats to our freedoms.

In all the tributes to the late great Gene Hackman, little or no mention has been made of his terrific performance in the underrated Get Shorty, in which he costarred with John Travolta. Hackman brilliantly played a D list horror film director who gets tangled up with mobsters. It’s one of my faves.

This new book on Biden should be interesting. Tapper and Thompson write: "What the world saw at Joe Biden’s one and only debate was not an anomaly…It was the natural result of an eighty-one-year-old man whose faculties had been diminishing for years.” (From Reliable Sources by Brian Stelter.)

Less than half of the federal workforce is based in the politically blue DC metro area. Tens of thousands are in red states working for the DOD, Agriculture Dept., Interior Department and others. What will GOP members of Congress do when the Musk machete slices through their states and districts?

Elon Musk, on behalf of Donald Trump, is rampaging through the federal government, dismantling programs, locking civil servants out of buildings, and working to kill whole agencies created by Congress. It’s time to get off the mat and pressure Congress to assert its authority. Call them.
