It's been a while since I posted. I have tried a number of times recently with no success to give up cigarettes using Nicotine patches. These tablets were recommended to me by my GP, and I am two months off the cigarettes tomorrow. Never in 35 years as a smoker have I gone two months without a smoke

A little forest walk with Marley this morning. This place is called Ticknock, and it's in the foothills of the Dublin mountains. Wherever we go in the car I bring a clean bowl and some fresh water for Marley.

Brenda Fricker RIP If you're British and of a certain vintage you may remember her as nurse Megan Roach in Casualty. Younger audiences will remember her as the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2. She was the first Irish actress to win an Oscar, taking the prize in 1990 for her role in My Left Foot. ❤️‍🩹

Took this beautiful girl for a walk yesterday. She belongs to my sister. She was found on a road in Carlow in a box with 5 other pups a few years back. She has boundless energy and lots of love to give. And her name is Lolipop . Humans really are despicable.

Met with my foster Dad and brother in their local pub today at The Goblet, near Artane, Dublin 5. We had Chicken wings, Many pints of Guinness and a few whiskey chasers. Went home pissed free of charge on the 15 cos why not? I usually drive it 🤣🤣🤣

I don't follow football so the World Cup hasn't been on my radar much. I have enjoyed following a moot's enthusiasm for his English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 team... slightly controversial for an Irish man I guess. But I must admit to being very happy for Belgium, given that the orange turd shamelessly moved the goalposts.

My 17 year old Mini up in the park. Just had a rather expensive repair job on it's engine's rocker cover. I only use the car for bringing Marley out of town or to go on roadtrips. My proximity to the city centre and free bus travel (I'm a bus driver), means I never use it around town.

Marley is a country boy at heart who was taken to live in the concrete jungle. So he relishes every opportunity to run around the vast expanse of the Phoenix Park and loves nothing more than rolling in the droppings left by it's herd of fallow deer, generations of which have lived here for centuries

Happy Father's Day to those who celebrate. My dad passed 26 years ago. Today I'm hosting two special Mums and my nephew for dinner because they did the work of both parents like many mammys do.

Back seat driver, or busman's holiday? Either way that's me all scrubbed up heading into town last night for a birthday dinner with the family. Goodbye 40's, Hello 50's. A lot of food and drink was consumed last night and I am off today. Normal service will resume in the morning 😂.

My bus yesterday was a twenty year old relic which is still in revenue earning service with the company. It has a capacity of 91 passengers. When it's empty it weighs 11.6 tonnes. When it's full, it's maximum permitted weight is 18 tonnes. People are heavy!!

I shall turn 50 next month. I have no siblings and my parents are both long since passed. Last week a care worker who minded me in my childhood, and who hosted a surprise 21st for me many years ago, texted me to organise a 50th celebration for me. Never lose faith in humanity 💚💚💚

I drove 40 kilometres out of town early this morning for my car's anual inspection. The test centre nearest to me was fully booked... The car has passed which is a relief and an achievement given that it's almost 17 years old! The fail advisory was for a number plate lamp..a minor defect.

Pass certificate for my car from the National Car Testing Service... a mandatory anual inspection for cars of a certain age.

All passes except for one of two number plate lamps which was defective, but not major enough fault to warrant a retest

The corner of this building has a really cool art installation on it which depicts a rabbit. It's in 3 D, and is constructed entirely out of discarded plastic and metal. It is on a side street in Vila Nova De Gaia, which is on the other side of the Duoro River in Porto.

Unlike most cities in Europe, Porto has an ageing fleet of private cars. Most are in the 15 to 20 years old bracket. I love that because new cars are unnecessarily expensive and so unreliable. But these older beauties have really caught my eye over the last two days.

Porto is a mecca for shite old cars. So far, this early 1990's Ford Transit is my favourite. It's parked up the back of São Bento Train Station, and it looks like it hasn't moved for a few years. The area is a bit run down here.... maybe this old Tranny is some poor soul's abode.
