Another #LakeDistrict dog rescue by MRT. This time it's Kendal MRT who stretchered an injured dog (and their uninjured owner😃) off the fell. www.itv.com/news/border/...
People, mainly in red outdoor gear, guide a stretcher sledge down the fell. A man lies on the stretcher and a large brown dog lies on the man.

Someone lost his wedding ring on Saturday, probably between the top of Great Calva and down to the river Caldew. If anyone finds a gold wedding ring with an inscription in side Please let us know and we can put you in touch with them.

The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel at Great Langdale now have a live streaming #LakeDistrict #webcam here www.odg.co.uk/webcam looking south over their car park towards Side Pike and Pike of Blisco. We've added it to our webcam page which you can find here www.walklakes.co.uk/webcams.html See less
Sample image from the webcam. Umbrellas over tables in the foreground, cars and vans beyond that and then a view over fields and trees to Lake District fells under a blue sky with light cloud.

We have a webcams page where you can find links to over twenty webcams around the Lake District so you can check the weather right now. We've just added the webcam at Northern Lights Gallery which has a lovely view towards Catbells and Grisedale Pike. Start here www.walklakes.co.uk/webcams.html
View from the new webcam. Lovely clear blue sky with fells lit by sunlight in the distance and the rooftops of Keswick in the foreground.

John just completed his first round of Wainwrights and thanked us for our help by making a *very* generous donation to us via Ko-Fi. If our site helps you then you can do so too if you're so inclined. It helps us keep the web site going. Start at ko-fi.com/walklakes
Screenshot from our Ko-Fi page. It reads:

John Newsome bought a coffee: "Completed the 214 Wainwrights with much assistance from your website - so just want to say ‘thank you’."

We replied: "Wow! Well done John, and thank you for your very generous donation."

It's a dull and damp day in the #LakeDistrict today but don't forget you can always see how the weather is now on one of the many #webcams around the area. We have a page with links to many of them and here's a screen shot of the view from George Fisher right now. www.walklakes.co.uk/webcams.html

We are almost out of #LakeDistrict #trigpoint photos but here's the one on The Old Man of Coniston taken on another fairly sunny day. We've got lots of walks up or around the Old Man www.walklakes.co.uk/walks.html?s...
Traditional stone built trig point sits in the sun on fairly bare rocky ground close to an edge. More fells in the distance all under a fairly blue sky with some cloud.

Here's the #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint on Seatallan on a clear but cold February day. Traditional stone construction again, so much nicer than concrete. You can visit on our walk "Middle Fell, Seatallan, Buckbarrow - a Greendale round" www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_144.html
Traditional stone construction trig point sits on rocky ground with a thin covering of snow under pretty clear blue sky with high cirrus.

Oooh, we've found another good photo of the #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint on Red Screes.

A traditional stone built trig point sits on a rocky fell top to the right of the photo with a small tarn to the left. There are many more fells in the distance. All under a sky with some cloud but the sun is breaking through.

Not sure why we stopped posting #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint but here's the one on Red Screes. Traditional stone construction and in good condition when we visited on a fine April day. You can visit on our walk 'Red Screes and Middle Dodd from Ambleside' www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_148.html
A traditional stone built trig point sits on a rocky fell top with many more fells in the distance. There's still a little snow on one of them. All under a sky with some cloud but the sun is breaking through.

It's been a couple of weeks since we posted #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint (cos Covid 😷) but here's the one on Place Fell. Traditional stone construction again and in good condition, with Ullswater beyond. Bit of a grey day when we visited.
A stone built trig point set on rocks sits on a fell under cloudy skies. In the distance a lake can be seen.

This is a fairly routine #Wasdale MRT call out report but the team lead was Jess who was a Very Good Dog and we couldn't resist the photo. www.wmrt.org.uk/incidents/co...

A favourite #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint of ours is the one on Loughrigg Fell and our walk to it from Ambleside is currently our most popular download. www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_141.html
A stone built trig point sits on rocky ground. There is a dusting of snow around, both on the same fell and more distance fells and the sky is blue with some white clouds.

Today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint is the one on Loadpot Hill, one of Wainwright's Far Eastern Fells lying between Ullswater and Haweswater. Traditional stone again and looked like it had been grouted recently. (The red thing at the base is an orienteering marker for a race happening that day.)
Stone built trig point sits on bare ground but the rest of the fell top is grassy. An overcast day but some fells just visible in the distance. At the foot of the trig point is a plastic(?) triangle of red about a foot across.

Today's #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint is the one on Little Mell Fell and was in fine condition when we visited it on a sunny day, with Blencathra in the distance behind it. It's easy to access via a remarkably short and steep walk from the straightforward access point of The Hause.
Under a blue sky with little cloud a stone built trig point in good condition stands on a grassy mound with browner ground beyond across the fell top. A dog sits further away looking into the distance.

Today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint is the one on Ling Fell, which is located west of Bassenthwaite Lake and is one of two at the northern tip of Wainwright's North Western Fells (Sale Fell to the east being the other). It's traditional stone built and was in pretty good condition when we visited.

For today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint we find ourselves on Lank Rigg, one of Wainwright's Western Fells, and this one is located south west of Ennerdale Water. Traditional stone built and was in very good condition when we visited.

For today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint we have a more conventional concrete one, which are relatively rare in Lakeland where a lot of them are stone built. This is the one on High Street (Racecourse Hill).
Under a clear bluer sky a man in a blue shirt and shorts is poised by a concrete trig point on fairly rocky ground. Another man, also in a blue shirt stands over to the right looking out.

Today's #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint is on High Pike (the one in the Northern Fells, there are four in Lakeland) where there is also a fine stone bench. This is one of the very few Wainwrights on the #CumbriaWay You can read more about that well known Long Distance Path here www.walklakes.co.uk/cw/

And, to add to this, we've increased our totals from 348 to 374 in Scotland, and 200 to 276 in Wales and we've also found 444 gauging stations in Ireland so they're now added for the first time. Just Northern Ireland to do now.

Another day, another #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint and this one is a classic: the one on Helvellyn. This was taken on sunny day in March but there's still some snow on the ground. Catstye Cam is the near fell just to the right of centre.

Today's #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint in the one on Gummer's How, a fell above Windermere. Our walk 'A short sharp walk to Gummer's How' will take you up to it. www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_206.html

Today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint is on Gowbarrow Fell with Great Meldrum and Ullswater in the background. Looks like the National Trust did some re-grouting when they added their plaque. Also a nice shot of Jessie who is much missed by us both. Our walk to it here www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_39.html
A trig point made of stones with a National Trust plaque on it sits atop a mainly grassy Lakeland fell with a few stone about. A ginger collie/golden retriever cross lies is having a rest in front of it. In the background you can just see a body of water among the fells.

Today's #LakeDistrict #Trigpoint is on Fellbarrow, a #Wainwright Western Fell south of Cockermouth. Another stone built on and at a bit of a tilt but still in reasonable condition. And of course we have a walk to get you there. 😁 www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_181.html

Here's the sad follow up to the story of this #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint. We visited it again in 2015 and someone had pushed it sideways. Curiously it was still, sort of, upright. We've not been up Crag Hill in a long time. Does anyone know if it has been restored? www.walklakes.co.uk/photo/3047
A stone trig point stands at an angle to the vertical to the right of the pile of stones where it originally stood. A yellow plastic bag can be seen among the stones and there's a fell in the distance under cloud.

Today's #LakeDistrict #TrigPoint is the one on Crag Hill and here you see it on a sunny day in 2013 with Scotland visible it the far distance. There's a sad story to tell with this one, but that'll wait until tomorrow. www.walklakes.co.uk/photo/1490

A stone built trig point with a National Trust plaque attached sits on rocky ground to the left of the photo. In the near distance is a dry stone wall with a ladder stile over it. The sun's not out and there's a lot of cumulus in the sky but odd bits of blue.

Yesterday's photo of the trig point on the Old Man of Coniston reminded me that we've got lots of photos of #TrigPoints so let's take a look at a few more starting with the one on Binsey. It's a classic #LakeDistrict stone built one, no concrete post here, and still with the benchmark plate attached

And so we come to the end of the walking year on a day when it's best to be inside planning! We hope you have a good walking year in 2025. Perhaps you might visit the Old Man of Coniston, a very fine #LakeDistrict fell? We (naturally 😀) have a walk to get you there www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_81.html

Today's weather reminds me of the day Beth went up Round How with Jessie when it was similarly overcast. But 'A visit to Place Fell overlooking Ullswater' is still a fine #LakeDistrict walk from the bottom of Ullswater ... although probably not today. www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_129.html

Bit of a grey #LakeDistrict day but it can be sunny, even in the winter time. This was taken up on Walna Scar on a lovely January day.
