Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 04/12/2024I thought this version was now available on Disney+. Is it not? This movie is an annual Christmas Eve tradition for us. 130
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 04/12/2024The biggest drawback to Amazon is the $9.99 cap on eBooks. If you price at $10+, they cut your royalty in half. That rubs people the wrong way because it limits them. I'm cool with that because I simply write shorter books. I then sell two books at $9.99 instead of one @ $19.99. 020
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 04/12/2024People in the replies are mentioning libraries. I can't think of a worse way to support authors. I think I get $0.30 every time my book is borrowed. I make $5-6 every time I sell an eBook on Amazon. 010
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 04/12/2024Honestly, as an author, I am sticking with Amazon. I know some people despise them, but I'm thankful that they provide me an easy-to-use platform for sales, marketing, discovery, and fulfillment. All I need to worry about is writing and occasional ads. Worth the 30% commission IMHO. 110
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 03/12/2024I always thought that was the case for me. However, I think it finally came down to the company. Ever since starting at Disney, I really don't have a desire to leave. I still do side gigs, but I've loved the 13 years I've been here and look forward to at least 12 more before I retire. 110
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 03/12/2024Something occurred to me during a meeting today: I don't tend to contribute much, but at least I'm entertaining. 010
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 03/12/2024I’m glad I’m past that stage of my career. 😀 020
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 03/12/2024For similar reasons, I’ve even been using VS Code and Markdown to write all my books. Each chapter is a file. Everything goes into git. When it’s time to submit to Amazon, I run some Pandoc scripts and they do all the heavy lifting. 020
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 03/12/2024There is great danger in being perceived as a spokesman when you aren’t one. 😅 000
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 03/12/2024That’s cool that he attended Sanderson’s class. My daughter is at BYU now and wants to take it, too. 010
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 02/12/2024I'm seeing a similar pattern here that I did when I first joined Twitter. An account will follow me. I look at that account to see whether we have any interests in common. What I see is an account with 15 followers, following 2k+ other accounts, and 0 posts. 🤷 110
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 02/12/2024You know I need to play this song now, right? 000
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Automation testing is much less brittle if the testing and development teams talk to each other. 000
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Are you feeling that someone needs to be cut into little pieces? 😂 100
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 02/12/2024I don't recognize the book by those passages. What book is it? 100
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 02/12/2024I too hope it’s a one off. Keep us posted. I haven’t flown Delta in a year or so, since getting a companion pass on Southwest. When that expires, I’m planning to go back to Delta. 🤞 110
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Rent a car? Are you going to DC itself or the surrounding area? I grew up there so it doesn’t feel intimidating, but I understand how it can be. 110
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Atlanta to DC? I’d be tempted to drive at this point. It’s one day and less aggravation. 110

Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 29/11/2024I was asked to sign an employment contract that would give ownership of any “works of authorship” to the employer. I politely declined and sought employment elsewhere. 000
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 28/11/2024Can we all please agree not to have clickable divs and spans in our web apps, please? I propose the following guidelines for clickable elements. • If it does something, we use a <button> • If it goes somewhere, we use an <a> 000
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 28/11/2024I’m grateful to be here. Seven years ago this month, I received a pretty grim cancer diagnosis. When the surgeon opened me up to remove the tumor, he only found one. It was larger than he expected, but I was otherwise clean. 000
Michael Callaghan @walkingriver.bsky.social · 28/11/2024I wonder if this will work any better than the U.S., where there has been a de facto ban on youth under 13 as far back as I can remember. It’ll be interesting to see the logistics. 020
