Hi #PortfolioDay! I'm Heather, a Canadian illustrator and educator. I work in many different media and much of my art ends up in interpretive panels that I create for clients all over the place. I also teach online drawing classes. #SciArt
A coloured pencil drawing of a raccoon peering at the viewer from behind a tree trunk.A digital painting of a red-backed vole hiding among a wild strawberry plant. A digital painting of a pair of wood ducks sitting on a rock next to the water's edge in a green forest. The greyish female is on the left and the colourful male with his bright green head, red eye and orange bill is on the right. A digitally painted diorama depicting all of the different animals that benefit from badger digging in southern Alberta. There is a black and white badger crawling down a hole after a Richardson's ground squirrel while a green and black tiger salamander rest in a side cave. Another side cave holds a western rattlesnake. Above ground, you see two burrowing owls poking their heads out of a hole while a swift fox and her kit sit among the wildflowers. A common nighthawk flies overhead in the light of sunset.

I know you are doing physical labor, but I feel the same. There is a point where we should not have to be working to exist. (actually don't think we should have to do that at all, but governments steal and drain resources to force people into capitalism survival mode)

There is a direct connection between the people who rabidly defend Democrats and those who staunchly defend sexual predators. It's short straight line. Don't blindly #JaneDoe post. Start seeing how you contribute to harms and do better, and demand better from your circles.

But people won't take five minutes out of their day to help keep a local cancer patient from dying. Or a local grandma get badly needed surgery. Or a disabled TBI survivor not become homeless after being evicted from the land her [wholly owned] house trailer has been on for 30 years.

Remember that Israel killed Israelis on October 7th. Israel refused to take the hostages back despite efforts to return them immediately. Israel targetted hospitals and other protected civilian infrastructure. Israel assassinated journalists. Israel = offensive terrorism.

No. I lost my breath,

Oh rascal children of Gaza.
You who constantly disturbed me
with your screams under my window.
You who filled every morning
with rush and chaos.
You who broke my vase
and stole the lonely flower on my balcony.
Come back,
and scream as you want
and break all the vases.
Steal all the flowers.

Come back..

Just come back…

Oh Rascal Children of Gaza by Khaled Juma, a Palestinian poet from Gaza. Written after Israeli naval shelling killed four Palestinian boys on a Gaza beach in 2014.

Israel cleared itself of culpability.

DO I HAVE ANY MOOTS WHO HAVE CONTACTS AT SERVIER PHARMACEUTICALS? I need a favor. A local woman has a rare form of brain cancer, usually only seen in children. The medication that will keep her alive is a pill. It's $45,000 a month. [Not a typo; $45K a month.] Insurance refuses to cover it.

It was a microcosm of the whole city, all walks of life, and I loved it. Often packed and social. When they switched to flyers, the ridership became only white collar professionals and students. It didn't run weekends at all and now it's only 2 NB runs in AM, 2 SB in pm. Totally inconvenient.

Goodness, one of the things I hated about the loss of a busroute closest to me was the loss of seeing families on it. I'd see whole families and child-care hand offs on that route which ran well before down to end of service. They replaced it w/a flyer route, limited stops, very limited service.
