The article is written to look like a study. It has an abstract and uses language like: “We propose an alternative, multi-hit hypothesis…” “We propose that it is of the utmost importance to explore the role of environmental toxins in the development of paralysis…” But look at the author!
Abstract

The prevailing understanding of poliovirus pathogenesis posits that the virus, following intestinal infection, gains access to the central nervous system (CNS) through viremia and subsequent crossing of the blood-brain barrier (BBB).
However, this model fails to adequately explain several key epidemiological and
clinical features of the historical polio epidemic, including the localized nature of paralysis, the disproportionate involvement of the lower limbs, the increased susceptibility of young children, and the striking predilection for anterior (motor) neuronal damage while simultaneously sparing posterior (sensory) spinal cord structures.
We propose an alternative, multi-hit hypothesis in which environmental factors, particularly exposure to neurotoxic pesticides such as lead arsenate and DDT-coupled with anatomical factors, such as the proximity of spinal cord and intestines in children—play a critical role in increasing susceptibility to paralytic polio. In this model, pesticide-induced disruption of the intestinal barrier allows poliovirus to enter the intestinal lymphatic system, bypassing the needForrest Maready’s author profile notes he studied religion and music.

You’re crashing out. The article you sent—written by those *real* science journalists as opposed to me, an amateur (your words)—says that the WHO panel “firmly rejected” the idea that the virus had been created by humans, having found “no compelling evidence” for it. The first two sentences.

We’re dealing with a real mind here.
Me: “I would add that the WHO panel *did* reject the idea that [the] virus had been created by humans, finding no compelling evidence for the idea.

Which is a conclusion the virologists I cited also came to. And it’s what the studies I cited also suggested.

Amir Attaran: Totally false and you’re lying again. WHO faulted China for hiding what viruses existed and what experiments went on in its labs. Real science journalists report this while unqualified amateurs like you just make shit up.The opening paragraph of the article Amir Attaran linked:

A scientific committee convened by the World Health Organization (WHO) has firmly rejected two minority views about how the COVID-19 pandemic began but could not resolve what actually did spark it.
The panel's report, released today, found no compelling evidence that scientists created the virus responsible for the pandemic, and it dismissed theories, widely promoted by China, that imported frozen fish introduced it to that country.

The opening of the article you just linked:
Science

A scientific committee convened by the World Health Organization (WHO) has firmly rejected two minority views about how the COVID-19 pandemic began but could not resolve what actually did spark it.
The panel's report, released today, found no compelling evidence that scientists created the virus responsible for the pandemic, and it dismissed theories, widely promoted by China, that imported frozen fish introduced it to that country. It concluded, however, there still is not enough hard evidence to say whether the origin was a natural spillover from animals infected with the coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, or a leak of the pathogen from a laboratory in the city. But like a previous assessment by a WHO panel, it leaned toward a natural origin.

You have repeatedly put them on the same level—whether that’s intentional or not. The WHO report is explicit that one is supported by published scientific evidence and the other mere speculation. And when I pointed that out, your response was to call natural origins also speculation.

Bragman is typical of unintelligent leftists who think nature conforms to their ideology.
The fact is that there is zero direct evidence from zoonosis (we have not discovered the wild virus), and zero direct evidence of lab leak (we have not discovered the leak).Amir Attaran
@amirattaran.bsky.social
There is circumstantial evidence of both the lab leak and the zoonosis theories, which is why both are still valid. But no definitive evidence of either theory exists.

After @angierasmussen.bsky.social crushed his lab leak plausibility claims, fmr Biden COVID czar Ashish Jha calls for a “real, transparent, international investigation” into COVID origins. Last June, the WHO Scientific Advisory Group on the Origins of Novel Pathogens did that. Conclusion? Zoonosis
Ashish Jha: This from my friend, Stanford's David Relman, on Covid origins is worth your time.
David helped write federal biosecurity policy and is one of the most thoughtful, even-handed experts in the country.
David says:
Rand Paul is right — NIH helped fund risky work in Wuhan that spliced bat virus fragments together like a game of chance, under weak safety rules.
Tony Fauci is right too — that published work doesn't look like a plausible
Covid precursor.
Relman says what's needed now:
— Everyone claiming certainty should back off and show some humility
— A real, transparent, international investigation
- Scientists accept guardrails on risky research; political leaders commit to honest public debate
We're doing none of it.

Most Democrats today have little conception or memory of how bold the party was before Reagan. I give you the 1972 Democratic Party platform’s full-throated endorsement of federally administered, nationalized healthcare. The party dropped that, pivoting to “universal” coverage—without the teeth.
Establish a system of universal National Health Insurance which covers all Americans with a comprehensive set of benefits including preventive medicine, mental and emotional disorders, and complete protection against catastrophic costs, and in which the rule of free choice for both provider and consumer is protected. The program should be federally-financed and federally-administered.

I am wearing a jean jacket that no longer fits with a necklace I no longer wear and a white v-neck that’s no longer white.

I’ve got sunglasses on my head and my hair pulled back.

The Democrats’ 2024 post mortem report notes the failure of the party under Obama to invest in state races in 2010, giving the GOP dominance in redistricting. It notes how this gerrymandering made them less competitive in general. This is why I was so focused on the census-year 2020 race in 2016.
The report reads:

The 2010 midterms, converging with lingering economic stresses and resentment towards Wall Street, the rise of the Tea Party, and metastasizing birtherism resulted in sweeping losses for Democrats. The simultaneous disinvestment in state Democratic parties at the start of the Obama presidency contributed to this 2010 mid-term "shellacking.”

Democrats lost seven seats in the Senate (including President Obama's former seat in Illinois), and 63 seats in the House, giving Republicans the majority, six governors, and twenty state legislative chambers.
The losses in the states - coinciding with the decennial Census - have had lasting repercussions.

With many Republican trifectas in place, Democrats were on the wrong side of severe partisan gerrymandering at the state legislative and federal levels in 2012. Subsequent federal court decisions have enabled and encouraged partisan gerrymandering, stripping even the idea of competitiveness out of the broader electoral and civic ecosystem. Consequently, Democrats have invested less and less in what is now seen as non-competitive terrain, compounding and reinforcing partisan disadvantages in many states and jurisdictions.
