Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 08/10/2026April could be the likely election window, as it would be late enough for pension eligibility, but early enough to limit Vannacci’s organisational build-up. Or could the timetable pull those incentives apart? 110

Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Lower transaction costs can decentralise activity at one layer, while network effects and economies of scale concentrate control at another. What I underestimated in 2015 was that removing an intermediary may simply shift intermediation to another layer. 010
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 05/10/2026So perhaps the puzzle isn't whether technology decentralises. It is why decentralisation occurs at one layer while control concentrates at another. What determines which way it goes? 110
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 05/10/2026The weaker prediction was about intermediaries. I expected software, cooperatives and federations to replace corporations in many intermediary roles. Instead, capabilities spread while platforms, cloud and compute created powerful new intermediaries. 110
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 05/10/2026At Anticipating 2040, I explored 3D printing, blockchain and AI — and saw both distributed production and AI-run “mega-factories” as possible futures. medium.com/@waldemaring...medium.comThe force of the many: The future of Blockchain, 3D printing and other decentralized technologiesHow can we use “the force of the many” in the best way? 110
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 05/10/2026The institutional starting point was market anarchism: markets need not mean capitalism, and production need not take today's corporate forms. The question was what other forms technological change might make viable. transpolitica.org/tag/market-a...transpolitica.orgMarket anarchism – TranspoliticaPosts about Market anarchism written by David Wood 110
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Why did technologies that distributed productive capabilities so widely fail to distribute control to the same extent? I’ve been revisiting two arguments I made about decentralisation in 2015. Eleven years later, the gap between capability and control looks much more interesting. 110
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Exactly. Proximity can be evidence of ecosystem conditions: talent, infrastructure, and capital. But it isn't the ecosystem itself. That distinction is what I was getting at. 010
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Isn't the interesting part of “Pentagon influencer” precisely the institutional role? If Schlichter was serving as an HQE and participating in the Senior Service College Task Force, where is the boundary between influencer, outside adviser and government actor? 0133
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 29/09/2026A map of AI companies is not the same thing as a map of an AI ecosystem. Proximity and valuation show concentration. Ecosystems depend on the links between capital, talent, research, infrastructure, customers and institutions. 100
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Maybe this points to a distinction between defeating an organisation and defeating its political function? Parties can disappear while networks, constituencies and parts of their agenda migrate elsewhere. 000
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Maybe the convergence is the more interesting point: multilateralism is not disappearing, but becoming more modular. The question is then less UN or no UN, and more which functions still require universal institutions, and which migrate to smaller coalitions. 010
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Probably V. C has much deeper financial reserves for another campaign. 000
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Perhaps the central bottleneck in AI policy isn't AI itself. It's governance capacity: the ability to understand, coordinate, procure, regulate and adapt across institutions as the technology diffuses. 051
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 28/09/2026The debate therefore shouldn't stop at regulation. The harder question is whether public institutions have the capacity to govern technologies that evolve faster than procurement cycles, legislation and organisational adaptation. 130
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 28/09/2026AI is making that dilemma more acute. By the time governments understand how AI reshapes labour markets, healthcare, education or defence, those systems may already depend on infrastructures they neither own nor control. 110
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 28/09/2026The Collingridge dilemma says that emerging technologies are easiest to steer when we understand them least—and hardest to steer once their impacts become clear. 141
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Your third point may be the more interesting one. If initiatives can set agendas, mobilise supporters and establish issue ownership, wins and losses tell us relatively little about political influence. Institutional effect and electoral outcome are not necessarily the same thing. 100
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 27/09/2026The interesting question isn’t whether collective media resistance can work. It clearly can when news organisations still control something scarce. The harder question is what they still control. Access and production matter. But distribution, visibility and, increasingly, synthesis sit elsewhere. 000
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 27/09/2026The UN’s problem is bigger than Trump. Over decades, its expected responsibilities expanded far beyond the instruments it actually controls. That works while major powers cooperate. When they stop, the gap between responsibility and capacity becomes impossible to hide. 000
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 27/09/2026The deeper echo may be institutional rather than literary. Möller’s distinction between a system that continues to function procedurally and one that can actually deliver seems increasingly important. Institutions can remain busy while their effective capacity to act is eroding. 000
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 27/09/2026“Follow the attention” also points to a further step: follow what attention makes institutionally actionable. Interest groups need not win the argument to matter. Shifting which problems appear urgent, legitimate or governable can change agendas, funding and eventually institutional capacity. 010
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 22/09/2026This sounds like a strong case for layered review rather than replacement. AI for exhaustive consistency checks, and experts for errors that require understanding what the argument or equation is supposed to do. The value lies partly in their different failure modes. 121
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 21/09/2026The deeper problem is the gap between the UN’s mandates and resources. The Secretary-General can streamline coordination, but member states create the mandates and preserve separate governing structures. If budgets shrink while commitments remain, that is capacity loss, not prioritization. 010
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 21/09/2026An IAEA for AI sounds reassuring. But nuclear materials and facilities can be identified and inspected. AI capabilities are distributed, privately controlled and constantly changing. The first question is not who supervises, but what could actually be verified. 000
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 20/09/2026The important shift may be that AI is no longer just producing political content. It is becoming an intermediary between voters and the information itself. That makes variation in answers a question about the structure of the information environment, not just accuracy. 000

Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Your point about options generation really stood out to me. The UN may still have considerable expertise and resources, but if it cannot turn them quickly into credible political options, that becomes an institutional capacity problem rather than simply a question of political commitment. 020
Waldemar Ingdahl @waldemaringdahl.bsky.social · 16/09/2026“Europe does not need more climate strategies. It needs delivery” gets to the heart of the problem. The next question is why the delivery gap persists: when priorities compete for the same money, political capital and administrative capacity, who actually has the mandate to choose? 000
