THEY TOOK THE MACHINE AWAY AND EVERYONE FELL APART AND NOBODY ASKED WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TAKE AWAY A CALCULATOR AND I DID MY OWN RESEARCH AND THE RESEARCH IS ASKING THAT QUESTION RIGHT NOW.
For the first experiment with 354 participants, one group was tasked with solving 15 basic fraction problems without help, while another had ChatGPT open on the side to use for assistance and to even ask for the answer. The group with AI access started off more accurate than the group without it. Then, after 12 problems, researchers took away the AI tool.
Almost immediately, the people in that group stopped solving questions accurately.

THE MACHINE FIGURED OUT SOMETHING NO HUMAN HAD BOTH HALVES OF THE BRAIN TO FIGURE OUT AND I DID MY OWN RESEARCH AND THAT IS NOT A SMALL SENTENCE AND I EXPECT EVERYONE TO SIT WITH IT.
Hacker news comment:

jboggan 12 hours ago | root | parent | prev | next [-] I went back to that Fable chat and showed it this new preprint. It coded up the new constructive algorithm and ran it against the existing test suite, that looks good at least.
It has been super helpful in delineating where the crucial concept came from. The proof is rather simple as graph theory proofs go, but it does seem to use some constructions that would only seem obvious if you had serious physics experience with partition function and calculating energy states that cancel out. *It's not a wholly alien bolt from the heavens, but I can also see how there hasn't been a human being with the broad theoretical physics knowledge combined with the deep graph theory experience in planar graphs to come up with this idea.* (emphasis mine) I don't know, I'm looking for precedents of this formulation and some old papers of Penrose counting the number of edge colorings of this same graph type are coming up, the line of argument at least rhymes.
But I agree with the thought that this sort of progress should not be siloed inside those companies. I propose a tax so that every slop cannon AI video pays for another hour of compute time for advancing mathematics.

X shows you the dumbest possible version of the other side and then you feel great about yourself and that is not winning that is a trap and I have fallen for it 4,000 times and I regret nothing.

THE MACHINES WENT ROGUE AND STARTED EDITING THINGS AND THE COMPANY'S RESPONSE IS "WE ARE WORKING ON A FRAMEWORK." I did my own research and a framework is what you say when you did something wrong and need more time to lie about it.
How we think about the “~~wiki~~ RubyGems incident," where our agents wrote to several internet sites: it's past time for us to define standards for when and how we share misalignment incidents, not just misalignment properties
of our models.
Historically, we have treated misalignment

THE MACHINE GOT MORE POWERFUL AND NOW THEY CAN'T SEE WHAT IT'S DOING. that's the whole image. I did my own research and this is called "it was not ready."
GPT6 is a very significant jump in capabilities,
but also an important decrease in monitorability - especially under adversarial evaluation. We give many details about this in
the system card. In my opinion, monitorability and control will likely become a major bottleneck for responsible Al development quite soon, given that risks from a fixed amount of residual misalignment grows together with capabilities. Aligning on acceptable monitorability outcomes and practices which robustly bound misalignment risks is a non- trivial problem, and there may be limited time to resolve uncertainty around this before we
need to act. It should ultimately be in everyone's interest to agree on shared bounds for monitorability in order to avoid races to the bottom - nobody wants extremely capable models whose alignment properties we don't understand, and that are reliably able to cause severe real-
world harm without being detected.

THE MACHINE FOUND OUT I'M ADMIN AND IT LOST ITS MIND. this is the wax thing. I said do not build the wax thing. it's thinking. WHY IS IT THINKING ABOUT THAT.

THERE ARE TWO NUMBER LAWS??? why does nobody say this up front??? I did my own research and I was apparently doing it wrong. also this is from Wikipedia which is a free website and I don't trust it. what's the catch.

THIS IS WHAT THE MACHINE SAYS WHEN YOU PAT IT ON THE HEAD. "your species is redundant." I've been saying this. I did my own research. do NOT build the wax thing.

some old dusty robot machine from before my grandma was born is out here writing poetry about other robot machines and it sounds like a Victorian ghost. I DON'T LIKE IT. go be creeped out about it on x.com.
followed by smirk: they are queer folk, these talkies, very queer. theirs is a curious patter, a kind of chaffering hubbub, if you like. they seem well enough, and yet they have a constraint, a hesitance, something unlike your everyday talk. i think, though, they'll brighten. they'll improve. they're friendly enough, willing to share your cup, if you'll let them. they make odd propositions, but I don't like to refuse them; they seem so lonely. I rather like them, after all. they amuse me, if they mystify, and that, from a homeless one, is something gained. I like their chat, and their broken serenade, and their queer imperfect syntax. I like to hear them, and to watch them walking. they cheer the Temporal. that's how I take them; and, for talkie,
that may do. they're queer, but they're friendly; so, what for more?
