I only call that out because I think if I were to talk that way about my experience in vrc with the people I'm trying to meet, I may inadvertently push them away and compound the problem, and I wouldn't want that for you. Your experience has been legitimately awful though, and I'm sorry. (2)

I see. I can understand being hesitant to trust again then. Results there are super person dependent, which is why I'd want you to pick someone you really trust to ask for help. Groups are a good idea. I'm pretty sure you'd know some of the EU macro meet weekly attendees and they meet Saturdays.

That kind of thing is what I see work in terms of getting people started on the platform. It doesn't have to be me necessarily, but going to a friend you trust to be able to both understand vrc and know people/groups they could network you with. The spontaneity usually comes after that. (2)

People in VRC are also less open/spontaneous/mature than at cons. It's not the 3% of the fandom that has the money and mental health to make it to one, it's the whole other 97% too. It's surprising how much that can matter wrt things like this. Lot of traumatized queers out there. (6)

If along the way a new friend is made within the platform, I try to get their telegram so more organic conversation can happen in the off-time that will eventually lead to us scheduling a hangout or planning to both attend an event. (5)

What I do, what others are doing that may be contributing to the low responsiveness, and what I'd suggest trying, is just thinking of VRC as tool that allows you to have face to face time with telegram friends you already care about. Arrange something in advance, or plan to attend an event. (4)

VRC's tools on their own don't cultivate the human interaction necessary to have meaningful hangouts in VRC. All you can do is send requests, you can't really have a back and forth, ask how they're doing, learn their context, if/how they'd like to hang out, etc. (3)

The overall responsiveness tracks with how responsive people tend to be on the platform, I think. Most people log on to do something they had set up or were aware of beforehand and only follow up with new folks after a first impression that makes them really want to. (2)

I have for four years and would continue to love to hang out in vrc sometime or take you to the EU weekly macro meets, you need only ask. I'm not sure if the problem is not having people in vrc to hang out with or a deeper concern over people's responsiveness on the platform though.

Finding friends who I could actually be /that/ open with and be met with understanding rather than judgement was super hard because most people tend to just compulsively talk about themselves. But it was really important to making me feel connected to everyone else rather than alone.

In case it helps, I struggled with this a lot too and found the cause to be that I needed space to turn inward towards the things that were bothering me with the support of friends who I can sit down with and be completely open about all the difficult things going on and know I'll be understood.
