If you like this one, you should watch this too! We talk about the combat phase and its steps; keywords and the combination thereof; and confusing combat mechanics like goad and banding. youtu.be/36mEaTK9Fu4?...

The Zeta Set is taking a mulligan! If you want another shot at picking up these packs, Wizards is giving it to you. I'm glad they are getting more of these cards out in the world. They are so cool looking. magic.wizards.com/en/news/anno...

To this day, I think this is the most helpful episodes of the podcast I've ever worked on. @alsonamedjosh.bsky.social and I go through the language nuances of a Magic card and what they mean for its mechanics. It was a huge level up moment for me in my Magic understanding. youtu.be/7eBGjtysGcY?...

We don't make videos, we don't podcast, we just let the writers write. We're trying to prove that there's still an audience for written work about a thing we all love and word of mouth helped us sell nearly a thousand issues last time. It would rule to get over that line this time around.

IT'S HERE. Reality Fracture is a banner set and it made for a BANGER of a Game Knights. I'm obsessed with literally all of these decks (3/4 are 6-drop Commanders?!). Plus, @matthewmercer.bsky.social is as lovely as you think. It was a real pleasure getting to game with him.

I think this is a side effect of Universes Beyond, not Commander.

I don't think that's true. Avatar does a great job of shaping the world around it's legends using non-legendary creatures. It probably still has too many legends, but it shows the possibilities.

Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 26/09/2026
For sure. But I do think it is contributing to the feeling that more recent sets are less about worldbuilding and more a list of characters or references. Obviously this is a tough thing to overcome with UB sets, but not impossible. Avatar was a great worldbuilding set, in my opinion.

754 Legends (Including 12 spoiled legends from TRK) 658 Non-Legends (Including 35 spoiled non-legends from TRK)

I don't think most of the legends printed this year are designed with Commander in mind. It is more likely this is a side effect of Universes Beyond design.

Doing research on Scryfall for a future episode and I realized: There have been MORE new Legendary Creatures printed in 2026 than Non-Legendary Creatures. I knew it was bad, but... damn.

It’s been a tough season for sure. I got to seven a few times. But took some big Ls

On turn one in my first game with it, I played mountain, Mox Pearl, Black Lotus, Chandra, Torch of Defiance, made mana with Chandra, played Laelia, and attacked.

This is going to have to be my final Powered Cube deck before Reality Fracture. The deck was completely filthy and I drew completely filthy. It is both the reason to play Vintage Cube and the reason NOT to play Vintage Cube.

I do not count land ramp as tutoring, but tutoring is no longer on the list of expectations laid out by the brackets. This is the most up to date version.

In this episode, I tease the deck I built for the Reality Fracture Game Knights: Codie, Ravenous Codex and his companion Umori! The deck's spells are 100% creatures and the deck cares all about... NONcreatures! Can't wait for y'all to see it!

Oh man. That’s so great to hear! It’s exactly the kind of deck I like to build. So I’m glad it’s living up to billing.

I think Yennett is a stronger option for sure (although Eluge is probably the hottest), but I like that Uldaros mirrors my Galazeth Prismari DA deck a bit better.

"Uh, I'm going to name Sphinx's Approach."

Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 18/09/2026
I've been thinking about a fractured version of my Dragon's Approach deck with Sphinx's Approach (currently Uldaros Theorix). There are some great sphinxes to tutor up: Sphinx of the Chimes, Second Sun, and Consecrated Sphinx. But the one that is making me laugh the most is Conundrum Sphinx.

For the record, I am very into the design of this card. It is super bizarre and likely reliably powerful in some future contexts. But I'm not seeing the line right now.

I’m trying so hard to picture this going well for the caster and I really can’t.

You can target an opponent to protect them. But it doesn't take the spell off the stack. Still effects you.

As long as you have 0 cards in your library, you can still win with 0 devotion.

Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 17/09/2026
Folks keep talking about using this on a player's upkeep, but if I'm the protected player, I'm happy to just draw, play a land and pass, knowing I'm good for a turn rotation. If I have one, I'd be SLAMMING a board wipe or a big draw spell.

You are not a legal target because you are not an opponent.
220
Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 17/09/2026
Yeah. They still keep their lands and hand though? I guess it removes any controlling permanents. There are scenarios where a player goes to kill an opponent and you offer them their life (choosing them) in exchange for taking out everyone else first? But that's tough to line up.
100
Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 17/09/2026
Yep. If they have a way to win from their hand. Tougher without any nonland permanents, but still possible.
120
Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 17/09/2026
Maybe? Just feels like they combo off on their inevitable next turn.
110
Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 17/09/2026
It's not really though? They keep all their lands and their hand. They can't kill you with their board, but they can still do stuff.

Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 17/09/2026
It definitely makes for a funny moment!

Teferi's Reproach has me stumped. What do we think? This card interesting or just unplayable?

Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 16/09/2026
The player who has cloned the Venser can only copy things not on their board. So it's technically infinite copies of every permanent on their opponents' boards.
110
Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 16/09/2026
No worries. Not super intuitive.
010
Rachel Weeks @wachelreeks.com · 16/09/2026
You have a Venser. They have a clone. Their clone copies your Venser which makes 2 copies of your Venser on ETB. One of those Vensers can copy Venser again and continue the loop. The other copies any permanent on the board. The Vensers will die to the legend rule, but you still get ETBs.
