We're at a point where coding without an isolation mechanism or sandbox is way too risky. Use containers at a minimum, VMs if you have enough resources or a remote machine with either of these if you can. Watch 🍿: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ulR...

i created a dev container firewall feature that makes it super easy to lock down the network inside a dev container includes tons of allow lists like Github APIs / npm registry as well as AI APIs / tools this devcontainer.json is all you need for running sand-boxed claude code

The job market is pretty bad right now but I think we'll see a bounce back within the next few years. With seniors retiring and no trained juniors / mids available to be promoted, there will be a massive skill gap that needs to be filled.

Experts are still needed to validate AI output. As a beginner if you depend on and trust AI output too much you'll never learn the skills required to validate it.

Made it to Tokyo! I'll be giving a talk at @hono.dev conf on Saturday. Haven't done much exploring yet, but here are some shots I took of Shiodome / Ginza after landing.

Trees in the foreground. A large ventilation pipe on the left. Tall buildings that go on in the distance.

A stack of Japanese street signs on the left. A building with lights on in all of the offices on the right. The signs from top to bottom: Blue pedestrian sign, parking hours sign, no parking sign, parking 60 minutes sign.

Pedestrian walkways. Picture taken from below.

Picture taken through a glass window with rain drops on it. We can see a blurry neon sign through the glass and blurry tall buildings.

Had so much fun MCing and speaking at #JSNationUS this year! This was my 2nd time MCing and my first talk at a non local conference. Amazing experience! @jsnation.gitnation.org Thanks to @henrihelvetica.bsky.social @thebetterdaphne.bsky.social @beaucarnes.bsky.social for being awesome MCs with me!

CJ standing at a podium giving his talk.

A picture from the back of the room with CJ giving his talk. The slide displayed shows frontend-framework logos. It is hard to estimate the number of people in the room, but it is probably close to 1 million and likely the most people ever to watch a javascript focused conference talk. That last line was a joke. Sorry if you are hearing this through a screen reader. In reality, the room is like a small movie theater which is about 70% full.

All of the MCs of JSNation 2024 waving. From left to right there is CJ, Beau Carnes, Henri Helvetica and Daphne Oakes

Using tailwind + vite. With the ?inline param on the import, I can embed the styles in the component. You can do this in vite with regular css imports as well, but tailwind is nice because the resulting build includes all the styles in a single import.

// example web component that uses tailwind
import tailwind from "./index.css?inline";

export class MyComponent extends HTMLElement {
constructor() {
super();
const styles = document.createElement("style");
styles.innerHTML = tailwind;
this.append(styles);
// rest of the codes
}
}
