I think swarm audits will eventually be what bans #ai and #llm Unlike previous software, where you can pull the plug or rollback or mitigate a wall of fire, LLMs “swarm” It’s not renegade intelligence, more like when you drop a table in a distributed DB and you watch the wall of fire Expensive

Literally every platform we use was made in a 5 year period during the LAMP stack days in the late 2000s Every platform we use was built without #ai or #llms We are half a decade in to this shitshow, SO TELL ME? Where is that next Google? Facebook? Mapquest? I’ll wait

Still contend that the fundamental problem with tech is bros think computation IS something This algorithm IS flocking not a simulacrum of flocking This algorithm IS intelligence not a simulacrum of intelligence Understanding the difference means you don’t mysticize discrete systems as continuous

Crazy to see my former colleagues who never let their kids use an iPad now use ChatGPT They knew that every app is just a gocha and would rot their kids brains because they built the damn thing And finally they, the gocha builders themselves, pull a lever for randomized payouts like the rest of us

If any other company said "I stole all your stuff and now we're gonna destroy the world" we'd arrest and try every single employee #ai #llm

I’m begging every tech bro confused about the definition of “thinking” and “conscious” to take any neuroscience 101 class jfc As far as we know there is NO brain-body separation. Cognition and a physical form are so tightly coupled that its assumed one simply can’t occur without the other

I guess the BC-250 has some effort behind her now? I bought 2 a while back for some hacker fun but I saw a couple YouTube videos claiming it's ready for the real world now Dedicated game-dev station for a couple hundred dollars US? Don't mind if I do!

Haven’t published any big software updates in a while! Most sql environments don’t actually support u64 (bigints) there’s lots of magic behind it Snowprints works off i64 now! So it generates snowflake ids that are sortable without bitshifting in any SQL environment! crates.io/crates/snowp...

I feel like the one good upshot of the memory shortage is many folks will appreciate well crafted software than runs perfectly on old potatoes I don’t need the latest graphics card. None of us do. And I ADORE software that goes brrr on outdated anything

I’ve been focused on tools for self hosting I feel like we deserve a few daemons for the 99.7% of use cases so people can host their own media safely Alla Firewalld we could have: Fileserverd Authd Reverseproxyd The thing about scale is you can scale down too, any “service” could be a daemon

Another compsci faux pas about #llms is there’s no concept of “general intelligence” in any modern cognitive science. That’s not a thing. We are a pool of marginally outstanding talents and specialties. “Knowledge” is a result of that swarm. Specialities / limitations is a signal of intelligence

LLMs will be the reason why software gets regulated and coders will unionize LLMs bankrupt businesses, wreck self-driving cars, kill people with an extra 0, hallucinate tax records ... The result will be a cacophony of "whodunnit" lawsuits. Companies (and the gov) will blame coders

I think my favorite original sin of any "LLM as sentience" discussion is the fundamental fact that we are talking about discrete integral systems (computers) and continuous systems (chemicals, brains, electricity) One is fundamentally a simulacrum of the other. It will never be the same.

Folks using non-deterministic random text generators are gonna find themselves barred from any real world infrastructure soon and it can’t happen fast enough Banks hospitals travel? You wanna use something that can hallucinate a ZERO and kill someone? What about a mile of shit code?

The first hour of “Snufkin: melody of mooninvalley” is so so charming, excited for the rest Low stress / low stakes energy, gorgeous watercolors, music by sugar-rios and others The gameplay is slow enough to appreciate the artwork, and that slowness creates a lot of space for character development

10 years ago sf tech meetups were corny and fun. We listened to their corporate bullshit, they provided some pizza. Everyone networked I just went to a meetup that no joke announced "it is not our responsibility to feed you" and tried to charge me 15$ for nachos wtf? The vibe was so hostile

What's fun about a coyote-esque approach to building #html is the linear-time parser! One pass with zero backtracking makes the AST. Templates are memoized. The next pass renders the AST as html. 1 2 done! Python port is up next ... github.com/w-lfpup/coyo... github.com/w-lfpup/coyo...

With the navigation and view transition apis working across all browsers, I think we're ready for a comeback of "just use the web" I like how modern CSS is focused on being framework-less. I think JS could use the same philosophy. Light tethers between browser APIs could be a cool future 🖥️🐺💭

The best explanation for #llms was from a coworker: Transformers operate like fungi, mushrooms. Every possible path in the dirt is exhausted. The most direct paths to resources are rewarded. It's a kind of intelligence. Likewise, llms explore every possible path. It takes time, energy
