i wasn't sad about my body changes, i wasn't traumatized by birth, i could go into the other room and hold my baby. maybe just not being able to protect her from the outside world so much anymore? all the emotions of birth coming out? idk. it stuck with me though and i think about the feeling often

cw: pregnancy ending vulnerable post time during my post-birth shower (healthy mom and baby!) i looked down at my still-bloated belly and wept. hard. something about not feeling the little kicks and realizing i don't have to worry so much about everything i did and ate anymore made me weirdly sad?

my husband kept a few jumpers and a (small species) tarantula for a while and it really helped me not *totally* panic but they look nothing like our larger house spiders which FREAK ME OUT if one pops out of nowhere... 😭

Yeahhh I think sometimes refs are like too simple or simply too filled out for aesthetic purposes rather than telling the artist you give it too whats ok and what isnt (the purpose of a ref) xD i get it tho im guilty of the same thing a lot of times...

yknow, i want to add: this is especially true of characters whose style is more humanlike (flatter faced, plantigrade, etc) or chibi!!! it's hard to tell sometimes what's the style (thus can change when i draw it) and what's the design (what cant change, thats how that character is literally shaped)

i draw a lot of dogs but when i draw other species i do try to draw them differently shaped, and i've had commissioners not expect that... so just make your preferences clear!

I'm seeing discourse about species accuracy in the fandom and my two cents is who cares you do you BUT if your opossum sonas art looks canine & has pink paws instead of lil hands and you comm someone, plz make a note on your comm request or the ref that you are ok with a diff stylization or not!
