Some wanted to continue the war immediately, others wanted to guide humans. Amassing worshippers grants the demons the Faith to use their powers, so many demonic cults arose. Many demons wondered... where is Lucifer, our leader? Is he still trapped in the Abyss? Has he emerged?

1999's Reckoning cracked Hell open, and demons started emerging. They could manifest by inhabiting a human body who had lost their soul, either through very recent death or through the corruption of sin. Wearing a human form unexpectedly taught many demons empathy, tempering their eon-long rage.

The rebels gifted humans with consciousness. Everything changed. God was furious, and a great battle ensued between the loyal angels and rebels, culminating in a loyalist victory. Rebels were exiled to a void of no sensation or communication called the Abyss. Others called it Hell.

When they were done, they conducted nature to perform a grand symphony for God's special creation, the humans. The humans didn't notice or care. They were little more than beasts. Frustrated with the inability for humans to know the love the angels had for them, some rebelled.

The final game in the World of Darkness, Demon: The Fallen has thus far only received a single edition. Long ago, the seven Houses of angels helped the Creator create the universe, with each House having their own area of responsibility.

The Amenti divide themselves up into Dynasties based on which part of their soul is strongest. The old 42 Shemsu-heru are still around, acting as mentors.

The new mummies called themselves "Amenti," in honor of the now-destroyed Egyptian underworld. While the old Undying were... well, undead, the new Spell of Life made them truly alive. Colors brighter, sounds sharper, they could appreciate the world around them like no other.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 1 @vtmbloodlines.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
That all ended with 1999's Reckoning. The old Spell of Life was failing. A new one was devised. Thousands of newly-dead mortals around the world were given a second chance, brought back with the weakest parts of their souls replaced by a fragment from an Egyptian soul.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 1 @vtmbloodlines.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
The Undying were incredibly powerful. They could regenerate their bodies and return to life from nearly anything, even a mote of dust left behind from a nuclear explosion. They would have to reckon with the Judges of Ma'at in the underworld before being allowed to return, however.

The Shemsu-heru (companions of Horus) served the forces of balance (Ma'at). In a place like the World of Darkness, trying to serve balance means you're probably going to be one of the closest things the world has to a force of pure good.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 1 @vtmbloodlines.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
While there were tens of thousands of vampires in the world, there were a mere 42 of the Undying, having been created from Horus' most loyal followers by Isis' Spell of Life.

Existing in the periphery of the World of Darkness, the covers seen here make up 75% of the total number of tabletop Mummy books available. The original book was a Vampire: The Masquerade supplement, released even before Werewolf, making it the first non-Vampire supernatural released for the WoD.

While Hunter 5e focuses on a different kind of hunter, the Imbued might still be out there, somewhere, as suggested by one of the callers in to the Bet of Night in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2.
RADIO CALLER: And that's the rub of the whole thing. I saw something last night... and it was like this urge was lit up inside me. And no matter how hard I try or what I do, I cannot go back to the life I had. I have to do something - anything - to figure out what that thing was and how I can stop it.

In a way it was a reversion to earlier "The Hunters Hunted" books for Vampire, which covered various groups of mortal hunters.

Hunter 5th Edition was considered by some to be a different game entirely. The Imbued were nowhere to be seen, and the focus was on regular unpowered mortal hunter cells, with little organization above the cell level.

Hunters were, in a sense, the immune system of humanity finally kicking in against the supernatural infection preying on them. If you played the Hunter console games, they were about the Imbued. 2002: Hunter: The Reckoning (GameCube/XBox) 2003: HTR Wayward (PlayStation 2) 2003: HTR Redeemer (XBox)

That human is then given the power to see the supernatural creatures hiding among them, and the power to stop them. Having been imbued with power, they called themselves the Imbued. The way you responded to the call would determine your creed, the type of hunter you became.

Hunter: The Reckoning arose in the wake of 1999's Reckoning event, presaging the end times. Various people were visited by mysterious "Messengers," giving directives: a sign reading "Making all regular stops" changes to "YOU MUST MAKE THEM STOP.

And that concludes the first week, covering the five originally-planned World of Darkness games, Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Wraith, and Changeling (or Vampire, Werewolf, Magus, Ghost, and Faerie). But the World of Darkness didn't end there! I'll pick up next week with additional game lines.
Vampire is only the first of five games in the Storyteller™ game system, all of them based on the same mystical version of our own world, each of them a modern fable. The others are: Werewolf™, Magus™, Faerie™, and Ghost™. Because of their compatibility, it is simple to use one with the other, and together they create one all-encompassing game system.

Despite the bright colors of its books compared to other World of Darkness games, Changeling is considered by many to be among the darkest, due to its themes.

A series of unexplained arsons with no witnesses might be the fault of an angry dragon chimera; changelings are often called to deal with them for the safety of the community.

Other creatures of the Dreaming, collectively called chimera, also exist. Technically "imaginary" but to the fae, also very real. They can interact with the mortal world, as long as no mortals are present. (Think the toys from Toy Story). And they can harm changelings.

Balanced between the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, changelings often immerse themselves in courtly intrigue as they try to find a way back home to Arcadia, deep in the Dreaming.

Changelings, and those they specifically enchant, can see each others' true forms. Just as dreams often follow archetypes, changelings divide themselves into distinct kith: the brutish trolls, the elf-like sidhe, passionate satyrs, inudstrious boggans, and more.

Creatures of imagination, of dream and nightmare. The fae come from another realm, the Dreaming, but were stuck here long ago. The world is inimical to them, rife with Banality, the force of uncaring tedium and disbelief. In order to survive, they cloaked themselves in human seemings.

Orpheus agents could project out and conduct the perfect industrial espionage, or commit impossible murders, and command a hefty fee... at least at first. The Orpheus game line was only six books, conceived as a miniseries, and each book resulted in a big change in the plot's status quo.

Wraith came to a conclusion in 2nd Edition, so rather than a Wraith Revised, we got a new ghost game, Orpheus. A cryogenics company discovered that those suspended could wander the Earth disembodied. Ghosts were real, and we could walk among them. The Orpheus Group was founded to monetize it.

The ultimate force of destruction and entropy, Oblivion is like a black hole at the center of the underworld, and they're the main force that Stygian society was set up to fight against.

Much like a vampire's survival instincts get supercharged into an inner "Beast," a wraith's dark side gains its own voice as the Shadow. A wraith whose Shadow has totally taken over is a spectre. Spectres want to drag everything and everyone into Oblivion.

Most PCs belong to Guilds, based around the powers one can learn as a wraith. Puppeteers deal with possession, Haunters cause chaos like bleeding walls, etc. Some are legal as they have a legitimate use in Stygian society, others are strictly forbidden, most exist in a gray zone.

Stygia -- based loosely on Rome -- divides its citizenry into various Legions based on the method of your death, with their power largely dependent on their size. After the first World War and Spanish Flu, that was the Grim Legion (victims of violence) and Skeletal Legion (disease).

Unfortunately, interfering with the Skinlands is also against Stygian law. So if you want to resolve the things keeping you bound to the underworld so that you can finally move on, it's going to involve... at least *bending* the law.

In most games, death is the end. In Wraith: The Oblivion, death is just the beginning. You're a wraith, a ghost. The empire of the underworld, Stygia, is run by Charon. You're here because there's something you've left unfinished in the material world (the "Skinlands").

Mages can run the breadth of the universe and its otherworlds, and can manipulate reality in nearly any way they can think of. They can be incredibly powerful, if properly prepared, but are still ultimately mortal.

The Order of Hermes are notable to Vampire fans for being the parent organization of House Tremere, who sought to replace their failing immortality spells by becoming vampires a thousand years ago.

In response for the Pogrom against them, a number of magickal societies formed together as the Council of Nine Mystick Traditions (commonly just "the Traditions"). They support the freedom of everyone to live in the world they want, chase their own dreams, and shape reality to their liking.

The Technocratic Union don't believe in magick -- what they're doing is "Enlightened Science." They're not mages, they're scientists. The bleeding-edge work they do is gradually perfected and introduced to the Masses as mundane science and technology.
