vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Thanks! what I wanted to convey in my original comment: 1. that iroh://... is not a global namespace, and 2. that the default setup most devs get when they start using iroh relies heavily on n0 infra. 020
vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Sorry, it's been a while since I fiddled with iroh. My actual point: Can your node connect to "iroh://endpointaaacarwhmusoqf362j3jpzrehzkw3" without knowing my setup? 110
vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Interested in this. So, node A1 uses relay R1, and A2 uses R2. If A1, R1 use a different DNS, than A2, R2 for resolution, will A1 be able to connect to A2? And if R3, R4 use a non-DNS resolution scheme (say a shared table), will they work with the rest? 110
vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I like iroh, don't get me wrong. And supporting multiple protocols like iroh:// would be cool. Just raising some concerns because everyone seems to treat it like pure p2p, which it is at one level, but with some asterisks that need attention like relays. 100
vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 21/09/2026So, for nodes to work together, there is a silent underground agreement on the relay set and the resolution. 110
vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 21/09/2026iroh is a bit tricky and imho, it needs to be treated with caution. Resolution depends on n0's resolvers (dns) and relays. The protocol allows an app to define its own relays and resolution policy, but my understanding is that in general two different policies may not be compatible. 320
vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Building the user interface for a CLIs/TUI (but especially CLI) is one of my favorite challenges, because there are so many limitations. There is just a narrow path, and you have to find smart solutions using very little, unlike a a GUI/web-UI where almost anything is possible. 000

vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 19/08/2026Why is ENS not suitable? It's a kv store, where I can put anything I like. I can put my did:plc key and let it be resolved by ENS instead of DNS. 100
vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 19/08/2026ENS: I don't want to maintain 10 identities, with their own attack vectors, recovery methods, private keys, etc. I want to manage single id I can use for my public wallet, my social presence, my website. vrypan @vrypan.bsky.social · 19/08/2026I think if ATproto went that way, it would be better to deploy their own Id contract. But wouldn't it be more valuable if we used ENS? Ens is already integrated in many projects, from wallets to domains. 100
