On multiple levels. My grandad was quite old when my father was born. He was working as a boy in the 1910s in a linen mill. Feels more like a story of a great grand parent for people around my age.

Agree mostly, but public dissemination is different from public access, and open access is more to address the later. The public should have access to the outputs work that they have paid for. Is e-mailing the author enough for this? I think there's probably too much friction on both sides.

The reform party (UK) always makes think of the impression of Preston Manning, leader of the reform party (Canada), that Royal Canadian Air Farce used to do.

Reminds me of the hate that Drizzt knock-offs used to get in old D&D forums.

Is the character your character's dad or do they only think they are your character's dad?

British people are so weird about heating and it doesn't even get actually cold in the vast majority of this country.

Have you seen how proper espresso drinks are made? Much more similar to food prep than a beverage.

I used to wonder during Trump I whether this was a reflection of his history in real estate. I.e. the power imbalance between Trump and a contractor he was trying to push around is actually much bigger than between the US and European countries.

Nah, much funnier with the name "parts of Holland", which Wikipedia still tell is still recognized locally.

It was a joke - Holland is 2 provinces in the Netherlands.

I always decide ad hoc for things like this and related questions like "do novellas count?".

I hope you chopped your onion super fine. Listening to my friends talk about making it while I lived in Qc, that seemed to be an essential part, based on how much they complained about doing it. One person I know owns a slap chop just so they can dice onions super fine for tourtière.

It's like that Douglas Adams' quote about the size of the universe, but it's about London instead.

I thought something like this was happening when Canada arrested Meng Wanzhou. Maybe I was missing some nuances, but China didn't seem to really believe that Canadian officials couldn't just randomly order her released.

I wonder how much people are under rating the difference 2 makes. If you're saving for a deposit you need some serious savings before it's less than a year of saving time and if you're repaying a mortgage it needs to be more than 600k before the time the 20k saves you is less than a year.

An old colleague of mine once complained that people don't move more like fluids, since if they did they would speed up as the street go narrower. Though, that was for much less dense crowds.

I think part of it is approval rating. Trump is still above water there, for one of the only times in his political career. A lot of political people pay close attention to stuff like that.

There was a publisher that did something like that for a while iirc. They did exclusively genre fiction, and it was something like 15 years ago.
