Close-up graphic poster by Patrick Nagel, Commemorative No. 3, from his Japanese-themed series drawing on sushi and Japanese culture. One of Nagel’s signature stylized women fills the composition, her pale face framed by dramatically swept black hair. She looks directly outward with violet eyes, heavy black eyeliner, arched brows, and burgundy lips. Across her forehead is a wide cream headband styled after a Japanese samurai hachimaki, centered with a dark red circle evocative of the Japanese flag, while loose black strands of hair fall across it. Long, thin lavender earrings frame her face.
Her clothing is rendered in flat geometric areas of peach, black, and charcoal, while the background combines cream, black, and deep red forms, including bold diagonal red-and-cream stripes at the right. The image uses Nagel’s characteristic crisp outlines, minimal shading, restricted palette, and sleek fashion-illustration aesthetic, blending his cool 1980s visual style with overt Japanese motifs. A black band along the bottom reads “PIEDMONT GRAPHICS”, with smaller text beneath: “PAINTINGS · SCULPTURE · GRAPHIC EDITIONS.”

Close-up color fashion photograph of a sharply tailored men’s three-piece suit and tie, cropped from the shoulders to mid-chest with no face visible. The suit is charcoal gray with subtle tonal texture and faint windowpane-style lines, layered over a matching buttoned waistcoat and crisp white dress shirt. A dark gray silk necktie is tied in a neat, symmetrical knot beneath a wide spread collar. Broad peaked lapels frame the chest, with a buttonhole and fine tailoring details visible on the jacket. Although photographed in color, the gray suit and tie, white shirt, and dark background create an almost monochromatic appearance. Dramatic lighting emphasizes the contrast between the textured wool, smooth satin-like lapels, lustrous silk tie, and bright white cotton shirt, giving the image a formal, luxurious, highly polished menswear aesthetic.

Japanese-influenced minimalist bathroom rendered in a restrained charcoal, black, and natural wood palette. A matte black vessel sink sits on a long dark wood vanity beneath a slim wall-mounted faucet and a large round mirror partly cropped at the upper right. A small dish with neatly stacked bars of soap rests on the vanity in the foreground. Near the center, a low rounded stone basin or stool with a rough volcanic texture sits on the wood floor. At left, a deep window opening admits soft daylight and frames delicate bare branches reaching inward, creating an organic contrast to the severe dark walls and clean architectural lines. The subdued lighting, tactile stone and wood surfaces, sparse objects, and asymmetrical composition give the room a quiet, meditative, spa-like atmosphere rooted in Japanese minimalism and wabi-sabi aesthetics.

High-contrast black-and-white close-up photograph of a single calla lily isolated against a completely black background. The flower’s pale, sculptural spathe rises vertically and twists gracefully around itself, opening near the top into two broad, sweeping curves that resemble folded fabric or an abstract ribbon. Fine translucent veins and subtle surface texture are visible across the petals, highlighted by directional light. The central spadix emerges near the upper middle as a small textured form. Deep shadows along the lower folds contrast with luminous white edges, emphasizing the flower’s elegant curves, symmetry, and almost architectural shape. The stark monochrome treatment gives the image a minimalist, sensual, and highly sculptural quality.

Originally the number of seats on the SCOTUS reflected the number of federal court districts. So 13 is indeed the right number.

Is this some sort of Rorschach test?
Close-up photograph of a large home-grown red-orange tomato resting on my light bamboo cutting board on my kitchen counter. The tomato is broad, squat and deeply lobed, with a dark green stem at the top. Its unusual natural shape creates a pronounced vertical crease down the front, flanked by two rounded bulges, giving it a humorous, distinctly anatomical resemblance to the crotch and vulva of a nude woman. Warm kitchen lighting highlights the tomato’s smooth, slightly irregular skin, while small appliances and countertop objects remain softly out of focus in the background.

For the initial European release and restored in the director's cut edition of the DVD release, it has the Jerry Goldsmith score. For the initial U.S. theatrical release and the VHS release, it has the Tangerine Dream score (along with song by Jon Anderson of Yes, and a song by Bryan Ferry).

Mitch @vrcadia.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
Same. I adore the song, and have been a HUGE Bryan Ferry fan since the Avalon/Roxy Music Days. Not 100% it fits the closing credits per se stylistically, but the song itself is fantastic.

Mitch @vrcadia.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
Agreed fully. Goldsmith's made some of the best scores in cinema. I adore his iconic Star Trek: The Motion Picture score which literally re-invented the franchise's theme. But somehow the synth-based soundscapes that Tangerine Dream made for Legend lands in the right otherworldly space it needed.

Converted to artistic black & white.
Black-and-white erotic photograph of two nude adults engaged in sex on a rumpled bed. A woman lies on her back with her knees bent and legs spread, wearing black fishnet thigh-high stockings held by narrow garter straps. A nude man kneels over her, his muscular torso arched forward and supported on his arms, while his hips are positioned above her face as she performs oral sex on him. His back, shoulders, buttocks and thighs dominate the right side of the composition, while her stockinged legs create a strong patterned contrast at left. Their faces are largely obscured by the intimate positioning and tight crop. Soft, low-key lighting and the grainy monochrome treatment emphasize skin, muscle, fishnet texture and the curves of their bodies, giving the scene a candid, sensual and distinctly erotic-art quality.

Looking forward to the weather eventually letting us embrace laying our outfits again.
Full-length menswear fashion photograph from the Gieves & Hawkes Fall/Winter 2016 London collection. A male model stands facing the camera in a minimalist gray studio, wearing a sharply tailored charcoal-gray two-piece suit with a subtle textured weave. The fitted single-breasted jacket has narrow notch lapels, lightly structured shoulders and flap pockets, paired with slim straight trousers turned up slightly at the ankles. A substantial medium-gray cable-knit wool scarf is wrapped high around his neck, its long ends layered across his chest, while dark leather gloves and polished black lace-up shoes complete the monochromatic cold-weather look. His dark hair is neatly swept back and his expression is serious and composed. Angular pale-gray wall panels and a dark rectangular block form the spare architectural background, reinforcing the restrained, sophisticated palette.

Gieves & Hawkes is one of Britain’s historic tailoring houses, based at No. 1 Savile Row in London. Its lineage combines Hawkes, founded in 1771 with strong British Army connections, and Gieves, founded in 1785 and closely associated with the Royal Navy; Gieves acquired Hawkes in 1974. The Fall 2016 menswear collection was designed under creative director Jason Basmajian, who described his approach as retaining a distinctly “British accent” while speaking an international design language. The collection combined traditional Savile Row codes—precise tailoring, luxurious cloth and gentlemanly formality—with softer knitwear, shorter trousers and more relaxed contemporary styling, as this charcoal suit, heavy cable-knit scarf and gloves illustrate.

Black-and-white graphic featuring the phrase **“Great Minds Overthink Alike”** in very large white serif lettering across the upper and middle portions of the image. Beneath the words, an open hardcover book rests on a dark surface, its pages dramatically fanned upward from the center binding to create a radiating, almost architectural pattern of light and shadow. A thin horizontal line runs across the composition just above the book. The background is nearly black with a softly mottled, smoky texture, while directional lighting catches the edges of the pages and the tabletop. The stark monochrome palette, oversized typography, and illuminated open book give the humorous play on “Great minds think alike” an elegant, cerebral, slightly self-aware mood.

This past month or two has been terrible. Sam Neill, Dolly Parton… and now this. Thank you Mr. Curry, for sharing your talents with the world for all these years. Tim Curry 1946 - 2026 R.I.P.
Color promotional image of Tim Curry as the Lord of Darkness in Ridley Scott’s 1985 dark-fantasy film *Legend*. Curry is almost completely transformed by elaborate prosthetic makeup into a towering demonic figure with gleaming crimson-red skin, sharply sculpted facial features, pointed ears, yellowish eyes, and two enormous black horns sweeping dramatically upward from his forehead. His muscular bare chest and abdomen dominate the frame, while black, heavily textured garments and ornate shoulder pieces frame his body against a muted gray background. The combination of glossy red skin, monumental horns, theatrical costume and Curry’s intense expression gives Darkness an imposing, almost sculptural presence.

In *Legend*, Darkness is the film’s principal villain, a personification of evil who seeks to destroy the last unicorns and plunge the world into eternal night. Tim Curry’s performance combines menace, sensuality and theatrical grandeur, while Rob Bottin’s extraordinary prosthetic makeup renders the actor nearly unrecognizable. Despite relatively limited screen time, Curry’s Darkness became one of the film’s most enduring images and one of the most visually memorable fantasy villains of 1980s cinema.
Extreme close-up color image of Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult musical film *The Rocky Horror Picture Show*. His face fills almost the entire frame, surrounded by thick, tousled black curls. The character’s deliberately theatrical makeup features dramatically arched and sharply drawn black eyebrows, heavy charcoal eye shadow and eyeliner, pale foundation, and glossy deep-red lipstick. Curry looks directly toward the camera with wide, expressive eyes and a mischievous half-smile, capturing Frank-N-Furter’s flamboyant, seductive and knowingly theatrical personality.

Curry originated the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1973 London stage production of *The Rocky Horror Show* before recreating it for the 1975 film. Frank is the extravagantly gender-nonconforming “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania,” a mad-scientist host who creates the muscular Rocky and draws the newly engaged Brad and Janet into a night of sexual liberation, camp, science-fiction parody and chaos. Curry’s fearless combination of glam-rock sexuality, comedy, menace and charisma became the defining performance of the film and helped make *The Rocky Horror Picture Show* one of cinema’s most enduring cult phenomena.
