Reminder that both the "mass vaccination = mass death" nutcases, and the "ongoing deadly pandemic" lot are proven wrong every day. Actuaries - whose jobs depend on getting death rates right regularly publish age-standardised mortality rates. Post-pandemic, back to a steady year-on-year improvement.

I ordered something online which was sent from China. It reached the UK and had cleared customs within 48 hours. It then was ignored by Royal Mail for 9 days in a warehouse before it was scanned again and finally delivered 2 days later.

Diss - a pleasant town in South Norfolk, sadly suffering the slings and arrows of USA English usage.

A lot of sailing skills are transferable, such as navigation and weather forecasting/awareness. A lot of pilots do both. Depending on which gliding site you went to, it’s definitely getting to the end of the soaring season using thermals to stay up, therefore more difficult to learn over the winter

It does involve an element of hanging around waiting for the weather, like most things in the UK. Also it’s a very much a club atmosphere, as everyone is a member and the gliders won’t get airborne without everyone pitching in to help. Powered flying is turn up at lesson time and go home afterwards

Yes. Intermittently since my Dad’s mate took me for a flight when I was 8. I recommend it to all, especially youngsters who are keen on flying as you can go solo at 14 if you’ve done all the training. Most glider pilots have very good flying skills and it’s a lot cheaper and more fun than powered.
