European legislation is outlawing seed collection to allow the GMO fuckers to establish a monopoly. Open pollinated plants, mostly heritage varieties, are still available (ISSA at Scariff are good) and their seeds come true unlike the useless modified crap.

It amazing how many tidy lawns left uncut for a month or two (early season) will see orchids pop up. On community schemes I left whole areas free and where that wasn’t possible I would cut around the orchids!

Anything that feeds the soil is bad for wildflowers. Yellow rattle is great to deplete soil richness. Cut hard and scarify. Remove everything. And remember, compost heats are burning now!!

We are living in times when old knowledge is useless! I cut the meadows with a sickle bar machine and dried the hay on a tarpaulin for rough winnowing. But I did it when there were conditions for reseeding. But the wild seeds are resilient and patient. Bombed fields bloomed poppy seeds long buried.

The shading is vital. Unless you want to go Japanese with a sand box and an artful raking. And the stress will give seeds a boost so that’s a free insurance policy!
