Please remember, every time you see a newspaper or magazine article denigrating people - people like myself - who choose to avoid infection with SARS-CoV-2, there will always be a tiny, quiet voice in the mind of the author whispering, 'what if they're right'? We are right.

Ableism makes you think you will be the exception. Disability won’t happen to you. You’re “better than that”. You’re “stronger”. You will succeed where the rest of us failed. It’s not true. Disability can & does happen to almost everyone. It’s not a moral failing.

Society only chose option 1 because they were lied to. “It’s just a cold” “Kids are fine” “Herd immunity” "Only the vulnerable are at risk" Repeat it enough times and people believe there’s no danger. Denial is easy. Prevention takes effort. Source: x.com/1goodtern/st...
tern @1goodtern

There are two main ways to make people feel safe:

1) lie to them that there is no danger

2) take action to reduce the danger

Why, in the name of all that is rational, did society choose option 1.

If you thought wearing a mask was “too hard”, you really won’t like living with chronic illness. Everything about the chronic illness existence is hard. It’s suffering, fatigue, pain and abandonment. It’s having to mask all the time because no one else wants to protect you.

Public health is a group effort. “You do you” rugged individualism doesn’t work. We vaccinate to protect ourselves and those around us. We vaccinate to protect babies, immunocompromised people and those who can’t receive the vaccine. We’ve eradicated entire diseases. RFK Jr must resign.

The graphic includes examples of photos: medications and supplements; heart rate alert on a smartwatch; health care appointment; and flowers in a ray of sunshine. At the bottom of the image are logos of organizers: Simon Fraser University, OH-HI Science CoLab, Museum of Vancouver, PHSA’s Post-COVID-19 Interdisciplinary Clinical Care Network, and Michael Smith Health Research BC.

International Long Covid Awareness Day is coming up and we’re working an important campaign - and we need your help! 1/2
We want to highlight your long Covid story on International Long Covid Awareness DayA graphic with the text: Working with long Covid groups internationally, we're creating a public awareness project (inspired by a similar event in Australia) to share experiences of living with long Covid.A graphic with the text: One of the challenges of our condition is being able to gather so we can make ourselves visible. Our hope is that everyone in the long Covid community can participate in this event in whatever way their energy allows. The simplest option is sharing your story for us to write on a pillowcase.A graphic with the text: These pillowcases will be laid out at public venues in Vancouver, Toronto and Quebec City—so people can see the impact long Covid is having on so many lives.
